We`ve been going to Llangynidr for years and have never tried this pub. At present I`m in a wheelchair for a few weeks and found the pub that we usually visit - Coach and Horses - really not accommodating so tried here instead. What a fantastic pub! Such a warm welcome, friendly atmosphere and absolutely lovely young man who helped us and served us. A real village pub with a great mix of locals and visitors. I can`t believe that we haven`t been here before! Seats outside and a play area with a slide for the children. Food was delicious and piping hot, good selection of ales and very good service. As my husband said, we know where we`ll be going from now on. Don`t miss the Red Lion when you`re passing by - the sign is on the main road and it`s only a few yards detour to a very warm welcome and a great country pub. Thank you!

Visited at Sunday lunch and was served quickly with excellent trad. Sunday roast and a fine home-made soup. Staff asked three times if the food was Ok so we were very impressed. Highly recommended. Being able to sit outside in this peaceful location added to the experience.

Children's play area/slide makes the pub family-friendly.

Was walking the Beacons Way so this was at end of Day 3 of long walks in warm weather & beginning to flag. Had great welcome from Sarah & shown to our room, which was well furnished, clean & comfy. Ate outside & meal was nice - served up promptly. Popular locals place & most of the regulars seemed to all know one another. Good traditional breakfast & plenty of toast & teas provided. Generous packed lunch also provided. My companion wanted fruit which they did not have but Sarah nipped upstairs & got him a banana, so going above & beyond the call of duty. Had left windows open after going to bed as weather warm so there was a little noise from people sitting below but it was pleasant chat & ear plugs were provided which I did not need. A very pleasant stay & hope to be back soon to explore more of the locality.

Room Tip: Not sure if there are rooms at the back but if a light sleeper may be worth asking.

Thank you for your kind words, we are very glad you enjoyed your stay and we hope to see you again one day. We do have one room at the back of the pub which is definitely quieter. Unfortunately it is very hard to keep people inside on hot summer nights, they do like to talk outside. It can cause problems but there is very little we can do about it (not from lack of trying). Again thank you for your honest and very kind review.

Just celebrated my dads 70th birthday here with family members, and thanks to The Red Lion lots of fantastic memories were made. Firstly we were given a dining room to ourselves which led out to a patio area and play area, this was a great touch as we felt it quite a private touch. People in the bar made us feel very welcome and the staff were friendly. As for the food we all had different things from the Sunday menu and it was enjoyed very much by us all, service was quick and friendly good potion sizes and was good value for money. I would like to say to the Red Lion thank you so much for you welcome, service and allowing us to make my dad's birthday so special. We will defiantly be returning.

Recently booked a table of 21 for a family birthday at The Red Lion. It was a big gamble as we had not eaten there before. The only reason we had turned to going there was due to a falling out with the local pub down the road.

Our visit was everything you could ask for, great service, great food, great drinks, great atmosphere and a good price.
Food was far above standard, served piping hot and within great timing. hygiene was excellent, and portion sizes were perfect. for a little pub they managed no problem at all to fit other people in around our party and delivery of food was impeccable (no one really had to wait), there was an exception of 2 desserts that in fairness was due to freshly made whip cream and the heat.

Bar staff and eventually kitchen staff (after her shift) were beyond welcoming and all had the time of day to have a chat and make you feel at home, even the locals would chat as if they had known you all their life!

For anyone who does a lot of canal walks/bike rides, i highly recommend that you go just 5 minutes out of your way to this pub rather than a visit to the more local "coach and horses", as The Red Lion is just in a different league, my only regrets are that i hadnt visited sooner.

Sometimes have lunch there on weekdays, but decided it might be a good destination for Bank Holiday cycling. And so it was! Good basic pub food, and good beer properly looked after. People from Gloucestershire or London might have thought it was a Bank Holiday discount, but no, that's proper South Wales country pub prices. And as ever, thoughtful service, so that even when there's a slight misunderstanding about who wants which pint, matters are put right instantly and with a smile. Usual recommendation to the Red Lion.

We had lunch here on two days during our week in the area. The jacket potatoes were huge and just as they oughtto be. The guest beers change regularly and it's proper beer, none of that ponsy foreign lager stuff. We could take our golden retriever in and he welcomed the fuss. What's not to like about a pub like this. We'll be back next year.
