.We had such a great time here . My husband and I really wanted a weekend of comfort , good food and pleasant surroundings .The landlady is friendly and so helpful . She's very' savvy' too having turned round this B&B which had been a bit disappointing a few years ago . I would recommend this place to anyone, firstly . because it's great but, also , because it caters for all ages and types of groups . The rooms are clean .updated and very comfortable and the food is varied and lovely . .

We were holidaying in a canal boat on the Monmoth and Brecon canal and decided to pop out for dinner. The pub was very close to the canal which was convenient.

The beer was good. The olive and bread starter was very good, but that's pretty much where the good review ends I'm afraid.

Despite the average age of the customers - over 60, we had rather inappropriate music to sit through. At one point, we had some screaming heavy metal which would have been great for the bikers who rode past, but really hard work for a romantic/quiet meal out, which it appeared most of the other customers were there for.

I ordered a pork chop with mustard sauce and mashed potato and veg. My husband went for the venison sausage.

I have never been served a smaller thinner pork chop in my life. It can't have been more than half a cm thick. So rather dry and not terribly tasty. The veg were extremely overcooked and tasteless.

My husband's sausage looked and tasted as if it had been microwaved - not an ideal way to cook a venison sausage, which rather relies on some browning to give it a more appetizing appearance.

Trying to make the most of it, I was intent on having a desert. But when I overheard a newly arrived customer asking the waitress how long they would have to wait to be served, and being told an hour, I decided to return to the boat for desert. In a busy restaurant, you'd expect a wait, but the pub was only about a quarter or a third full. I asked the waitress how they coped on a busy day, and she replied that she was new to the job, and couldn't say.

The staff were very friendly however, and I think we might have caught the chef on a bad day, given the other glowing reviews that this pub has received.

Wouldn't return though, or recommend it.

We stayed overnight at the Coach & Horses as a last minute break from the city. Was hoping for a proper pub stay - good beer, good hosts and good food and we were not disappointed. Lovely size room and bathroom, super friendly landlady and helpful stuff and GREAT Brecon Brewery beer. As an added bonus, they served gluten free food AND beer - have yet to find a pub in Cardiff that does this! Really loved this place and will be back. Thanks for a gerat welcome and a great stay.

A large group of us met here for a night out. Some stayed the night, others were on narrow boats. What a great night we had. The staff were so friendly and welcoming, we couldn't have asked for more. Thanks Tracey and staff. Oh and the breakfast was brilliant too!

When we arrived the owner Tracey was enthusiastly greeting us. First a nice drink in a relaxed atmosphere, then the check-inn.
This manner is typically The coach and Horses, relaxed and welkoming. Oke, the food is just pub-food, the whole building is old but charming and the rooms are not up-to-date. But the overall atmosphere and the beautifull region is it al well worth.

This hotel/inn is fabulous! My husband and I stayed here for only one night on a whirlwind driving tour of various parts of the UK, and we feel so lucky to have found such a gem. After staying in London, Bath and York, we found quaint country places like the Coach and Horses to be the best memories of our short trip. First of all, Wales is gorgeous, and this lovely place is situated on a quaint country road. It was getting to the end of winter when we visited, but we enjoyed the outdoor activities even so. There was always a cozy fire in the pub, and our hostess was so welcoming and friendly - we felt immediately at home. She offered to make dinner for us since her cook was out for the evening and we were the only guests, but we decided we'd like to explore a bit and take a beautiful, cool starry walk down to a pub down the road to mix it up with some locals. I believe the pub was called the Red Rooster or something to that effect, and they have excellent food! My husband ordered a traditional shephard's pie, and I went for the non-traditional pizza - and both were delicious! Great Welsch beers, of course and a roaring fire made for a wonderfully memorable evening.
Our room was very comfortable and spacious, as well as the bathroom and all was very clean. If we could have stayed a week, we would have. Our hostess was very knowledgeable about lots of hikes and walks nearby and we took her advice on one the next morning, which was delightfully refreshing. This place will be a fond memory of ours forever!
