If you are on an extended stay at the Crown hotel, say for a conference, then Quantro, across the street, will provide you with a quality dining experience that won't strain the expense account.
Fusion is, I believe, the word that describes the fare on offer here. I was a rather wary of this description, but here, at least it works - and how!
My missus and I have a habit of sharing every dish we order. Both of us enjoyed the 2 starters and the 2 main courses immensely. A salad of rocket with chicken's liver was livened by local black pudding and a well judged dressing. A similar salad of oriental crispy prawns benefitted from a tasty Thai style aromatic sauce.
Monkfish wrapped in bacon served in a crayfish sauce was nothing short of brilliant. Equally good was slices of Yorkshire lamb served with flavoured mash.
Unfortunately we didn't have room for dessert.
Harrogate's arriviste status as a venue means that competition is stiff. Quantro delivers mixed messages visually: modest exterior, not especially welcoming chairs/tables, a huge mirror along one wall.
This, in absolutely no way, refleects the quality of the cooking, or indeed service.
£ 71 for two, including two cocktails and a bottle of Fleurie.
