We had actually booked the Azalea House hotel, but were met there by Eastern European builders who were apparently fixing plumbing. We were informed that we'd been 'upgraded' to Aston Hotel around the corner.
We were met by the owner who took my details and my money before leading us through to our room and explained "Someone may try and get into the room in the night, but don't worry, we've changed the locks".
It turned out that there had been someone in that room up to our day of stay on a long let, and had left without paying. All of his things had been removed on that day, and he might have tried to get back for them! What little comfort was afforded us by the locks being changed vanished when the key didn't work and the door didn't even close properly!
We were in the hotel long enough to ring the Travelodge then fled whilst we still could!
