The hotel's name is very misleading. This is not a motel. It is located immediately next to a stables and livery and is miles down a track. You have to walk through the stableyard to get into the hotel. Unless you like horses and are just looking for a basic room from which to go off walking, this will not be the place for you. We were booked for a one night stay to attend a Christmas Party in Harrogate. Check in time is very late at 5pm and check out is 10am, but actually we didn't want to spend any time at the motel at all. The room was very basic and the horses contributed their own aroma to the place. There were no tea and coffee making facilities in the room; these were located in a communal room down the hall.
We couldn't face trekking across the stabelyard in our eveningwear and eventually decided to cut our losses and find an alternative hotel (which we did and would wholeheartedly recommend -the Camberley in Harrogate itself). We did complain to the Motel owners, but did not get a refund.
The Harrogate Motel may at first glance seem cheap at £40 a night for a double room, but it is some way from Harrogate and, once you add in taxi fares and the fact that you are only getting a continental breakfast, it simply isn't worth it.
