“Nice B&B opposite Valley Gardens”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 April 2013

Very clean, lovely freshly-cooked breakfast (service was slow as we all arrived at the same as we were all at the same conference) but a lovely stay.Reasonably priced, free parking permits and wifi, close to everything, what's not to like?

We stayed 2 nights in this B & B which was in a good location within walking distance of town and the Conference Centre, it is very clean and tidy with great breakfast cooked to order. We stayed in room number 4 which has a four Poster bed which was very comfortable, with lovely bed linen, from our room there was a nice view of the park opposite, the service was good and on arrival we were offered free parking permits to park at the front of the hotel. Brenda was very helpful and friendly and went out of her way to make sure things ran smoothly despite staff shortages due to illness, the staff we did meet were eager to please and friendly.

very ,clean twin room - small but ok. nice bedding comfy beds warm and beautiful towels.
free parking with a permit - free wifi - great location 2 mins from centre pubs and restaurants and museums very close by. Super staff - so helpful and kind. 5 minutes to Betty's nut the Palm court cafe was better value and delicious. Wetherspoons pub 2 mins walk as are the spa and lots of shops. There are plenty of hotels nearby but this was very personable and a good choice.A little hill to climb but nothing my 75 year old Mam could not manage!! highly reccommend this establishment.

Room Tip: the double rooms on the front will be lovely rooms with a view of the gardens opposite.

We tend to stay here when we are in Harrogate. (So do TV stars and personalities, by the way). It's a family business and the hosts are very friendly and eager to go the extra mile to ensure guests feel at home. Breakfast is delicious and made to order, although the usual fruit, yoghurt and cereals are available as well. Parking permits are thoughtfully supplied free of charge and the hosts are always helpful with suggestions and tips for sightseeing. A refreshment tray is available in the rooms, but a bowl of fruit is also left in the corridor for peckish guests.
On one occasion the hosts were happy to move us to a bigger room when it became available. The Cavendish is centrally located, and yet quiet. It's a short stroll to the Pump Room, and the beautiful Valley Gardens - wonderful for strolls - is just across the road. It's a few minutes' walk to restaurants (although there is one so-so Italian establishment next door) as well as fashionable shops and amenities.
The only thing I would say is that the TV's need updating, but otherwise the rooms are lovely and the bathrooms are fine.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking Valley Gardens.

We stayed in a family room, which had a small second bedroom for the children, with a bunk bed. The location is perfect. Parking was fine, with permits supplied by the hotel. The breakfast was extra good!

My daughter and I stayed here overnight and were very comfortable. It is only a short walk to the town centre in a very pleasant location opposite Valley Gardens.
Breakfast was good and our room at the back was quiet and warm- no view but we were out most of the time.

The Cavendish is really well-placed: 5 minutes walk from three of the town's best pubs and most of its tourist sights. 10 minutes walk to most of Harrogate's eateries. Top aspects are - lovely, friendly owner/manager. Great breakfast done to perfection. Bathroom - sparklingly clean - never seen anything so well cleaned, brightness of the ceramics was blinding !
The downsides were: the back bedroom we were given (as last guests to book) was a tad claustrophobic - presume that the larger front of hotel rooms facing the park are more spacious and light. Bed was a wee bit short (and we're not tall !) Dining room and reception area not very cosy as strictly utilitarian.
Internet access was intermittent and seems unable to deal with many users at the same time, so that was a dissappointment.
Free parking in the front street may be a bit problematic as one uses a voucher given by the hotel, so if you arrive in a particular busy period then you might be parked a way off - this was easily remedied the following day when evening parkers disappear. The stairs to the rooms are pretty steep so the old and infirm may find them tough going.
While I would probably choose The Cavendish for a short visit of a night or two, I think a longer stay would need more of the cosy factor.

Room Tip: Try to guarantee your room is at the front as the rear ones are quite gloomy
