We had a very good meal on a Sunday evening. We had two beef meals and thoroughly enjoyed the ambience in a quaint, yet atmospheric bistro.

Reading some of the other reviews,I don't know what they are on about. We always eat here when we visit Harrogate. I couldn't have a more polar opposite opinion of our experiences at Le Jardin. We will definitely be back again when we visit!

Le Jardin is in a lovely location right next to the Montpelier gardens and the name of it sounded promising ... but everything about this place was disappointing. And Why the French name? because nothing about the place or the menu is French!

We sat in the basement area and the first thing we noticed was that instead of a waft of garlic, herbs and delicious cooking, we could smell only the cooking oil from a deep fat fryer. The dinning area was cramped and unappealing with a decor both tired and shabby (not in a good way) and cleanliness of the toilets left a lot to be desired. Service was slow but friendly.

The food was equally dull and unappealing. The fish cakes were tasteless lumpy potato with almost no fish served with some tasteless sauce spooned over them and a few bits of tired lettuce. I had the chilli con carne which had some chilli hotness to it but otherwise no taste at all. The rice was watery and over cooked. My other half had beef in red wine which was dry and stringy. We decided not to sample the desserts.

Although we were having a 2for1 offer we still did not think Le Jardin was good value for money. My advice - try somewhere else.

Friendly welcome. Decor was an attempt at quirky, but looked pretty scruffy not well thought out. Staff were attentive although they looked short staffed. Restaurant could use some music during quieter times though as the atmosphere was poor (tables slightly cramped and small).
(Laminated Menus), we went for the 3 courses for £13 (ish). Starters came out well presented. Leek and Potato Soup was warming and hearty but needed a touch more seasoning.
Casseroled beef steak was slightly dry but overall good.
Yummy homemade puddings (raspberry and almond tart + strawberry pavlova)
Overall can't be knocked for value for money, enjoyed out stay.

We had a meal here on Saturday evening,Initially decided to have the 2 course special but as we were enjoying so much we had a sweet also. The staff were wonderful not telling us that they really wanted to close because we were so involved in our chat they didn't like disturbing us .All our food was freshly cooked and excellent. Would def recommend that people try this small restaurant .We loved it.

We were warmly welcomed and certainly given ample special attention. The food was more than acceptable and matched the service. Overall we had a casual and very enjoyable time. Well worth a visit.
