“Desperatly Needs up-dating”
Reviewed 25 January 2014

The hotel looked very nice from the outside on arrival. The reception area was clean and modern.
The room I stayed in needed a deep clean. The bathroom was disgusting, the bath had thick black mold all the way round it, the plug in the sink was rusty. The toilet was so close to the bath, you had to sit at an angle..
My parents room, on first seeing it was wow, then oh. The carpet was full of stains, the room smelt of smoke, big chunks of paint were peeling off the ceiling, the tiles on the bathroom floor were cracked and loose, the bed had not been made properly (not sure if the sheets had been changed) and the cupboard holding the kettle and coffee cups was dirty and had not been cleaned . The Kimberly should be ashamed to offer rooms like this.

Close tot he centre and good value for money with free wifi and nice breakfasts. Rooms were decorated nicely but a little cold and the shower wasnt powerful but water lovely and hot. Didnt like the bat downstairs and irritated that I could have upgraded for nothing as they had a special deal but they didnt offer it to us when we booked in. Dont like UHT milk in the rooms but over all very good value for money and much better than the other hotesl in Harrogate which tend to be a bit dated and over crowed. The carpark at the back of the hotel is small so get in early and you are supposed to pay £6 a night but they didnt charge us.

Room Tip: Ask about special offers when you book in order to get an upgrade.

Kimberley Hotel in Harrogate is situated a couple of minutes walk from the Exhibition Centre and the town centre.
Rooms are clean and well appointed, same applies to the bathrooms.
Breakfast was a bit of a let down with the food being warm to cold. It was a shame as it had a good selection for the cooked breakfast.
There is parking but not enough spaces for the amount of rooms, the hotel make an additional charge for overnight parking of £6.00!!!

We had a great weekend at the Kimberley hotel, the Jaunuary sale made our double upgraded room only £60 for the night. Hotel was nice and clean, bar was very nice and the breakfast was fit for purpose. £6 for the car park was a bit of a p**s take but there is other parking available close by.

Overall we had a nice stay with no compaints.

Stayed here for 2 nights early January as part of an offer and found it very good value. The staff were friendly, the breakfast was superb a buffet style but hot and well cooked with plenty of choice and the waitresses there really attentive.
Our room was overlooking the back car park but with a lovely view beyond of the moors, the front rooms just overlook the road. The room was ok a bit tired maybe but overall good. Everywhere was rather warm but then of course they don't want you to be cold so we turned off the radiator and was then ok. The meal at night was good drink prices as per most hotels are a bit steep but not too far to walk to a pub. Also not far to the shops within easy walking distance.

Although on the map, this hotel might seem a bit out of the way, it is only up to 10 minutes from central Harrogate, so we were fine with the location - some of the way is up a slope however.
Considering we only booked a few days in advance, the room prices were pretty reasonable.

We were allocated two rooms on the ground floor; one with a bathtub which was a bit smaller, another with a shower cubicle, which was a bit larger. The rooms were clean, neatly laid out and sufficiently stocked with what you would need. The hotel reception was polite and both the check-in and check-out processes pretty quick.

The only two minor negatives we encountered were:
1) Despite only staying for one night and asking for late checkout, the cleaning team knocked on our door around 9am - in most other hotels, they would wait until you checkout to do any cleaning in such circumstances
2) The water in the shower heated up rather slowly

Despite the two points above, the hotel in general was good value for money and sufficient for its purposes.

This review is quite a difficult one to write as the price we paid for a dinner bed and breakfast rate for two nights was reasonable. However some things just don’t quite seem as good as they could be.

Upon booking I had seen prices on their web site and rang to book. the lady tried to charge me an additional £20 extra per night until I pointed out that the web site had a better deal on! I had also asked about parking as I read on Trip Advisor that people had problems. I was told the hotel wasn’t busy this weekend and we’d have no problems.

We managed to park, possibly got the last space in the car park and check in was fine. I was quite impressed with our room, it was a nice size with a nice bathroom. Everything was clean and we had wine and truffles upon arrival.

We ate in Signatures restaurant that evening which I have reviewed separately as it’s a franchise. We had one lovely and one average meal there.

Although the hotel itself seemed quiet and the bed was comfortable (albeit 2 singles pushed together and sheeted) neither of us slept particularly well and couldn’t understand why.

We had a wander around the shops the following day and also went to Bolton Abbey which is lovely.

Upon our return we got back to the hotel around 4pm and had nowhere to park. We were issued with a parking permit with a timing wheel and told to park in the permit section at the front. I was unhappy about this as it was on the main road. We were also told that at 9am we should go out and readjust the timing on the wheel. This is a direct violation of the rules printed on the disc!!! We’d hoped for a lazy morning, a lie in and a late breakfast but the parking issue put paid to that. I didn’t want to end up with a ticket and refused to break the rules.

That evening we both realised what had kept us awake the night before, the air conditioning in the room kicking in. Each time it heated or cooled the air it was very very loud and woke us up. It’s a shame as the rest of the hotel was very quiet.

All in all:
+ Most of the staff were very friendly and helpful
+ Room was nice and tidy and a good size
+ Good value rates
+ Restaurant lovely (on a good day)
+ Breakfast (buffet style) was also nice

- They seem to have extended the hotel and by the looks of it built onto where the existing car park once was, creating less spaces for more cars!
- Service isn’t consistent, neither by staff nor by the restaurant
- Very noisy air con.... poor nights sleep

Room Tip: We stayed in room 3007
