“Not a 4* but a decent stay”
Reviewed 5 January 2014 via mobile

Stayed here for 2 nights while visiting Harrogate. The hotel is The hotel is huge and looks quite impressive from the outside. On arrival to the hotel car park - which is £3.50 a day to park (totally unnecessary and makes the hotel look desperate for cash) - we were welcomed and directed to our first floor room. The room was huge, almost too big with 3 wardrobes! The bed was comfortable and everything was clean. The windows were drafty and made quite a racket when the wind blew. The bathroom was also huge and the shower which was inside the bath with a curtain was just adequate. The odd thing was when the bedside light wasn't on, half the bathroom lights would be off! We didn't eat in the hotel except for breakfast which was very nice. Staff were quite good but maybe needed to proactive rather than reactive to stocking up the food (often waited for something to completely run out before going to restock). We had a drink in the bar which ok except the background music was stuck playing the same part of a tune for the full hour without being changed. Also had to wait to be served a while as the bar man didn't seem to know the order to serve people.

The gym and pool was adequate. A very small gym wasn't helped by some equipment not working. The pool and jacuzzi were small and was little room to move but this was just the time I chose to go I guess.

Overall a reasonable stay at a large hotel in a good location. It cost us nothing as we paid in Tesco vouchers, which is probably why we weren't asked if we'd enjoyed our stay when we left, but certainly wouldn't pay full price to stay here.

New year break for our family of 4. Large well appointed room. Wonderful breakfasts under chandeliers and enjoyed the pool facilities. Bathroom a little bit tired but didn't detract from a nice stay in a very well located hotel. Would return if a similar deal was available from Puma Hotels.

Room Tip: Our view overlooked the town and grounds so was great for us.

Had a wonderful Xmas 3 day break. Hotel accommodation very good in all ways. Food exceptional and plentiful. Evening music entertainment very good...relaxing not disco. Carol singers most enjoyable. Not a vast deal to do during the day around the hotel but we had gone for a quiet relaxing break so not a problem.

Stayed with friends on a great groupon deal between Christmas and New Year. Hotel has a great location just about 10 mins or less walk to bars and shops. We paid a little extra for superior room and thought the room was excellent. Slippers and bathrobes should have been supplied and even after asking reception to send some to our room they never arrived. This wasn't an issue really because we didn't spend a lot of time in the room. Our room looked newly refurbished and was very spacious with a beautiful high ceiling and two windows overlooking what was originally the front of the hotel and is now used as the rear of the property. Bathroom was exceptionally clean, spacious and very modern with nice glass shower screen instead of curtain. Only niggle with room was that it was a little too warm during the night even after turning the radiator and towel heater off. I'd sooner be a bit warm than freezing cold though. We ate in the main restaurant as part of the group on deal. Dinner was fine, nothing spectacular but nothing to complain about either. Breakfast was good and had the usual cooked selection, replenished frequently, along with fruit, cereals, pastries etc. All of the staff members we spoke to were very polite and friendly. The hotel itself is a very old property but is well maintained for the most part. WiFi signal was a bit dodgy in the room but you could get a good signal in reception. All in all, we enjoyed our stay in Harrogate and would return to this hotel without hesitation.

Ok hotel in great location. Problems were long wait to check in. Also we upgraded to better room which was nice but the complimentary robes were dirty which we found a little disgusting and did not use them.

Dear LeeroyEast Yorkshire,

Thank you for your review and I'm very sorry about the few issues you encountered. We were full and the check in desk did get a bit swamped, despite the receptionists best efforts.

Your robes were definately laundered as we have our own facilities in house for cleaning them. With certain beauty treatments we have suffered from some discolouration and are taking steps to remedy this as well. It's rarely an issue and I'm sorry that these slipped through and put you off.

When you next stay do let me know and I will oversee your booking and ensure you get one of our very best rooms.

Kind regards, Vince
