This visit was our first time back to the Magestic since our Honeymoon in 1981, we always intended to come back but somehow life got in the way.I purchased the voucher has a Christmas gift for my husband and we intended to use it at the beginning of February like before. However my husband had a stroke at the end of January so again we thought our visit would not happen.I rang Domminic to explain the situation and he very kindly agreed to extend the voucher to last weekend, all we had to do was pray my husband would be well enough to travel and has you now know he was.We both felt quite emotional when we arrived and were glad checking in was made so easy.Although my husband was not very active durring our stay I can honestly say we had a wonderful time and everyone we spoke to was extreemly friendly and helpful, We asked lots of questions relating to our first visit and talked about the changes we thought had been made since then. We both really enjoyed the account of historical events book in our room it was very interesting and enlightening. However there was one question we could not get an answer to,my husband and I both remember swimming in the pool but we don't remember it has the one you have now, We really can't understand it because all the evidence and people's memories point to there never being any other pool, does anyone know if there was ever a different one.
Thank you to each and every member of staff they all contributed in some way to helping make our stay special.

Dear glorybe65,

Thank you so much for your kind review of the Majestic Hotel, Harrogate. I really enjoyed reading it and am pleased that we were able to play our small part in bringing you back here after 33 years !

A lot will have changed and I'm pleased to be able to answer your query. The current leisure club was opened in 1988 so you definately didn't swim in it. There are no records at all of there being an outdoor pool prior to that. Maybe you'd visited one of the baths nearby.

It's lovely to have welcomed you back and please try not to leave it so long before returning !

Kind regards, Vince

This was our first trip to Harrogate and it's certainly worth returning. The imposing building is in within easy walking distance of the town centre, although people with mobility problems may find the hill up to the hotel an issue. We used a discount voucher, which included bed, breakfast and an evening meal with wine and this definitely represented good value for money. However, it would not have been true if we'd paid the full price. We had a deluxe room, which was tastefully decorated, with a very comfortable bed, although the room had a depressing view across a roof to the other rooms. The evening meals were fine, although the breakfast was ok, we did expect a 4* hotel to offer scrambled eggs as standard fayre. There was also no cooked alternative to a full English breakfast. Also some parts of this very large hotel decor did look tired. We are in our early 50's and felt much younger than most of the other guests. More attention to little details would also contribute to the 4* rating eg our dirty wine glasses were left in the bedroom after it had been cleaned and although we had run out of soap it was not replaced. The receptionist who booked us in was quite miserable and not explain to us about the wi fi, spa or pool. The receptionist who checked us out was delightful and extremely helpful.

Room Tip: If you want an alternative to a fried egg, ask, because I'm sure it could be provided!

Dear B H,

Thank you for review of the Majestic Hotel. I'm glad to read that you had a good stay and appreciate your observations as to how it could have become a great stay for you.

The room servicing shortcomings have been shared with our Head Housekeeper to retrain the individual concerned as this is not our normal standard.

I have visited The Majestic several times over the past five years and have enjoyed the experience very much.
Unfortunately I have just spent a night there and cannot believe the change in this hotel
I know the hotel has been taken over by the Puma Group, but this is a minus.
The room was very nice, very clean as usual, apart from a tap that gushed water all over the sink top every time it was turned on.
It was the Restaurant that was disappointing .Very poor service, quality of food poor.
The breakfast in particular was very two star.
No scrambled egg,had to order this from the chef ( this being a staple breakfast item)
Had to ask for more butter more bread ,more milk.
Tea was cold and weak, and the cup was chipped.
The bar stopped serving drinks to cash paying customers at eleven pm,and would not take a credit or debit card unless it had been verified by the cashier in reception. How can this be in a four star large hotel!
Due to this being such a big disappointment I will not be returning to The Majestic.

Dear LIZZYMAC11,

Thank you for your review and I'm sorry that this return visit did not live up to your previous experience. I've reported the bedroom tap to our maintenance team as it seems if not turned completely off it does leak.

I do appreciate your feedback as it helps us understand where focus needs to be placed. We have made a change at breakfast with scrambled eggs prepared freshly from the kitchen along with the poached eggs. This is an improvement to the buffet scrambled eggs which didn't do well under the lamps. At weekends where over 250 guets are being served we will put it out but otherwise you can always have it freshly prepared which must be better.

All other items mentioned are available on our breakfast buffet and I'm sorry you were unaware of this.

Bar wise, we don't have a pre-determined closing time as this is subject to demand. If very quiet with few customers come 11pm we would close the bar. On the evening of your stay it closed at 23.47pm. Customers are able to charge drinks to their rooms if they provided a card authorisation with Reception.

I do hope that our direct correspondence will encourage you to return to us in the future.

Kind regards, Vince

There was a bit of a mix up over our booking, but this was quickly remedied by the professional competent member of staff on duty, who promptly offered us a complimentary coffee/tea and an upgrade to a premium room due to the mix up...
The room (438) was lovely and spacious, the mattress comfortable and it was so quiet that we never heard a thing all night.
We had a three course meal at the restaurant which was quite acceptable for the price.
The breakfast was buffet style, full English plus plenty of fruit, yoghurt and various pastries, cereals etc....
The staff were friendly and helpful.
The location is perfect for Harrogate, a quick walk through the garden and you emerge near the Royal Hall, more or less in the middle of the town.
We would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Me and my partner went here as we had a voucher for the stay including a 3 course meal, bottle of wine and breakfast. This turned out to be very good value for money. The staff were all very friendly.

This was our first trip to Harrogate. The hotel looked very grand from the outside. Some public areas inside were a bit tired looking. We had a room overlooking the garden and it was lovely. Service was a bit slow at times. The breakfast was excellent. The only real negative point is the charge for parking in the hotels car park. Would certainly stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the garden at the front.

Stayed for a few nights in a premier room over Easter. What a lovely hotel with beautiful features in the lobby bar and dinning room. The staff were all very friendly and helpful (especially the bar staff). Room was nice and modern. Good selection at breakfast and a nice evening meal in a lovely setting. Next time we visit Harrogate this hotel will be are first choice.

Room Tip: Book a premier room
