The Majestic is a grand old hotel, superbly positioned for walking into the centre, which we did on several occasions over our 3day stay. We had a premium room (200) which was clean and spacious. Unfortunately we had to move from this room on our 2nd night (around 1 am !!) due to a very strange knocking noise coming from behind the bathroom wall !! We were given a sub-standard double room but thankfully moved to yet another room for our 3rd night. The breakfast was excellent, although the service on our 3rd morning was very poor. This was the quietest of the 3days but replenishing the buffet took around 15mins so there was quite a queue waiting when the food finally arrived. We did not eat in the restaurant as we could get better value by going into the centre to eat. Vivido was very nice, a Mediterranean restaurant only 5 mins walk away. I used the gym and my husband the Orchid Treatment Rooms, both of which were excellent. The bar prices were very expensive, even for a 4* hotel. If you can get a booking at reduced/offer rates then this hotel is very good value. Upgrade to a premium room where possible. Also its a bit steep asking £3-50/night to park when you are already staying at the hotel.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a Premium Room where possible.

We had a very nice meal last night at the majestic, and although there were aprox 200 dining,I have to say that both the quality of the food and the service was first class.
Also i must compliment the waiting staff on their manners, which I found impecable.
Just one criticism the pre dinner bars were understaffed,

Spent may bank holiday at this pleasant hotel three nights in total for our wedding anniversary . On our arrival we had no problem parking and for £3.50 we thought that was good value. Our room was very spacious, a little tired in places but for its age it was not a problem.Nice toiletries but we did have to ask for them to be replaced over our stay which we did find annoying . My daughter had organised a bottle of champagne and chocolates as a surprise but we didn't know who they were from as no card was left , which she was told there would be one.we found out late at night who they were actually from!! Very annoying. The bed was very comfortable, pillows not great, personal choice, however I took my own problem solved. There was an extra heater in the cupboard which we did use as it did get a bit chilly at night. The breakfast was good but when you wanted anything different we had a language problem with the waiters on more than one occasion. Two of the evening meals were included in our package and to be honest they were not up to the puma hotel standard that we have had in other hotels the portions were not great nor were the flavours or presentation. We were glad to go into the town on the last night and had a fabulous meal elsewhere. There are so many restaurants to choose from plus variety We would eat all our meals out if we were to return .Our experience in the orchid spa was amazing we had the classic facial and have never had a facial like it awesome, our massage was good too.All in all a good hotel but not the best puma hotel we have stayed in they just need to sort out issues in the restaurant with food and service .

Stopped here 03/06/2014. Paid a little bit more for a Delux room after reading some of the reviews. I was not disappointed, lovely bedroom and bathroom. Well located for enjoying beautiful Harrogate. Friendly bar staff. Food at dinner and breakfast was fine, i had salmon for dinner and it was cooked to perfection, lovely. Buffet breakfast had lots of choice.

Having lived in the area all my life, I have just visited this spectacular hotel for the first time!
Using a voucher for a spa day and afternoon tea, we arrived at 12.15 and had a lovely swim in the pool, which was children free- thankfully. The pool is fairly small but more than adequate and nicely heated. The changing rooms were spacious with lovely hot showers, shampoo and shower gel provided in dispensers. A separate area had seats, mirrors and hair dryers. Ample lockers provided which took £1 coins. Unfortunately we did not have any as did not know but Kirsty on the reception was exceptionally helpful and loaned us £1 coin each. She was also very cheerful which is a pleasure to see. Plenty of towels are also on hand. The jacuzzi was very powerful (like a small volcano!) and was not too hot. The sauna is located in each of the changing rooms so is not unisex, which was a bit different. The only problem is the lack of individual changing cubicles for those of us who are not keen on parading around naked in public.
After our swim we ventured down to the Orchid Rooms for our spa treatment, having a choice of facial, massage, manicure or pedicure. We both opted for a facial which lasted approx 25 mins each. This is probably the best facial I have ever had (and we have had a few in various places around the country). The room was just the right temperature, with relaxing music, dimmed lighting and smelled lovely. The therapist (sorry, we did not catch a look at her name badge) was courteous, pleasant and very professional. The whole experience was extremely relaxing.
At 3pm we went down to the bar area for our afternoon tea. The bar manager politely informed us it was no trouble to amend the sandwiches on the menu to ones of our choice. The tea arrived first with some delicious shortbread biscuits, and was served by James (an additional treat ladies, as very easy on the eyes!). The 3 tiered cake stand arrived within 10 minutes and had ham, salmon, egg and cheese and tomato sandwiches. 4 small, warm fruit scones were on the centre plate and a tarte au citron plus a cream meringue both with strawberries and blueberries topping them were on the top plate along with a dish of strawberry jam and a dish of clotted cream. Although in our experience it is usual to have one cake per person of the same variety, we were more than happy with our selection, which was just about right for 2 of us.
Everything was delicious, the tea poured without a drop spilling (very unusual for teapots, but it looked old so obviously better quality than modern teapots) and then James delivered an extra treat by informing us we were entitled to a glass of fizz each!
The staff were all extremely polite, attentive but not over bearing. The hotel was stunning and anyone who says it needs a major overhaul obviously not appreciate "old style" hotels. This hotel had huge renovations a few years ago when it was closed for a year due a to a major fire, which claimed the life of a staff member. The hotel has retained its olde worlde charm with beautiful chandeliers, large luxurious carpeted areas, small alcoves with little reception areas, long corridors and huge banqueting areas.
I cannot comment on the rooms or main meals but cannot envisage any problems due to the standard of service and the downstairs decor.
This hotel would have looked absolutely stunning in its hey day, but has retained the charm and sophistication. You can almost see the ladies strolling about in their long crinoline dresses and the men in their evening suits.
A real touch of class in this dreadful modern world.
A fabulous day. Highly recommended

My husband and I stayed at the magestic on a one night group-on deal, evening meal and wine included. Fab deal. Excellent stay. If we'd had paid attention to the reviews we'd have never booked it so, do ignore them and make your own mind up!!!
We had a large, clean and nicely furnished premier room which overlooked the car park. Quiet and well set out with power shower and jacuzzi bath. Hotel well situated and close to the centre with short cut through lovely gardens. Evening meal and breakfast was lovely. Staff polite and friendly both at reception and in in the restaurant for breakfast and evening meal. Thanks for the stay...we'd definitely book again.

Room Tip: Worth paying the extra for a premier room if price ok.

Dear MGSB61,

Thank you for posting your review of the Majestic Hotel.

I'm very happy that you had a wonderful stay and reviews are very much like statistics in that you can see what you want in them. If you remove the top and bottom 10% and focus on the 80% in the middle you get a better idea and overall our reviews are very good.

Looking forward to your next visit.

Without doubt in its heyday this would have been a spectacular hotel.
It still does retain some of its historic splendour but some parts are in need of refreshing!
Staff all friendly and the lady on reception gave great advise on local bars and restaurants. The breakfast was great and the dining room is beautifully and recently decorated.we had a deluxe room which was fine with large bathroom and robes and towels crisp white along with the linen sheets.location for all that Harrogate has to offer is just 5 mins walk through the hotel gardens
Would definitely book and stay again
