We really like Harrogate, and this is our fourth or fifth stay at the Majestic. Previous visits have been so good, that a drop in standards are quite noticeable.
We booked a premium room (118), which was very nicely decorated, and cleaned to a good standard. The bath took about twenty minutes to run, and the sink waste took ages to drain. We weren't in a hurry, so it wasn't a massive problem for us, but I could imagine it would be a big problem for some.
Breakfast time was the area in need of improvement. Cold plates, congealed eggs, no butter…. I could go on.
Perhaps docking a couple of stars is harsh. The plumbing might be a difficult fix, but breakfast time could and should be easily sorted. I guess it was really down to a lack of staff.
Parking was very troublesome also - mainly due to the gardens and grounds being temporarily set up for use in connection with the forthcoming Harrogate Gift Fair.
I'll be watching future reviews of the Majestic with keen interest - We really like the hotel, but our next visit to Harrogate might involve a visit to the competitionMore
