I have stayed at the hotel 3 times in the last 2 years and it gets better and better.

Many years ago it was one of those places living on faded glory but now its fantastic.

The whole hotel has gradually been refurbished. As you would expect this hotel has a few bumps and bruises but they have been tastefully covered and painted.

The bedrooms are lovely, some are the normal size and some are huge. Always comfortable and clean, generous amounts of tea/coffee in your room.. Free wifi through out.

Breakfast staff are polite and efficient, and the food is hotel and tasty with a huge selection to satisfy anybody.

Where they shine is on the conference side. I was there for an event and the staff were excellent. The head chap, Dave Johnson, couldn't do enough for us, he pandered to every whim with a smile.

Lunch time food was excellent and generous.

I would highly recommend this hotel for a conference, good sized rooms for unto about 200+

Wow we loved this place, such an experience in the most amazing surroundings. Food top class, staff fantastic, accommodation brilliant. A luxury stay in a decadent hotel.harrogate is a superb spa town and this hotel is set in its own grounds in the old part of Harrogate. Convenient for all attractions and close to the town centre.

Enjoyed two night break in Harrogate at the Majestic, which once lived up to its name but now has to compete with shiny modern rivals.

Room was quite large and had a well-proportioned bathroom with decent shower over bath. Only minor issue was smallish window which didn't afford sufficient light towards door and bed

Welcome and service were good and plenty of choice at breakfast buffet.

Decent pool for swimming and other facilities fine.

Competitive pricing but one wonders at the future for such properties where constant maintenance and refurbishment is needed at a huge cost.

Car park £5 per day was reasonable but should you have to pay as guest?

Very well- located in leafy Harrogate and would use again if price was similar

Dear Positively4th,

Thank you for posting your review of the Majestic Hotel, Harrogate.

I am glad that you found your break to be enjoyable and above all, good value. You are correct in that such a building takes a lot of looking after though we have a good team who care about the heritage and wonderful features and will ensure we do our utmost to protect them.

Our rates do vary in line with events taking place and demand at weekends though there are often some super deals available midweek.

Looking forward to welcoming you back soon.

Kind regards, Vince

This is a charming hotel with lots of history, and is fairly well kept, however being such a large old hotel it needs some attention around the edges.

My check-in was swift and well rehearsed and I was able to park the car in the hotel car park (£5 per night). My room was 428 on the fourth floor. It was very large, with a bed that was wider than it was long, a seating area, separate clothes room, and a large bathroom. It was well equipped with all the things you'd expect to find in a 4 start hotel.

Apart from niggles, which I'll go onto in a second, the major problem with this room for me was the unbearable heat on the first night. I measured the temperature in my room at 25 degrees c late one night. It was so hot I was unable to have a cover on me whilst trying to sleep. On the second night I asked for a fan which made it much more comfortable. In the hotels defence I was speaking with the receptionist about this issue and she told me that due to the listed status of the hotel, they were forbidden install and air conditioning.

Now for the niggles...there was a serious lack of attention to detail with the decorating of the room. This isn't about wear and tear but the preparation work and decorating. For instance, a wall had been filled prior to wallpapering but rather than rub it down, they just papered right over the top leaving a scar vertically up the wall. The titling in the bathroom must have been done by a man without a spirit level, without and DIY skills and who could not read measurements because it was absolutely awful. The bathroom could have been cleaner - the tile grout had yellowed, which was unsightly, and the paint was pealing off the door.

As for the breakfast, it was very nice. Plenty of choice, and all fresh and tasty. I should also mention that the staff in the restaurant and in all other areas was very friendly and helpful.

Would I stay here again? Yes. For all it's faults, it's also a really welcoming and comfortable hotel. For £75 a night you get what you pay or, and I think it's fairly good value for money.

Room Tip: Ask for a refurbished room.

Dear Rhys H,

Thank you for your balanced and fair review of the Majestic Hotel.

Over the past decade we have worked with 4 different sets of contractors refubishing rooms in various schemes and the process is never without it's challenges. It's true that the building itself is not true as many builders have pointed out though this is part of the charactor I suppose.

Our in house team are having a good look at this room to see what we can improve and hopefully when you next visit you'll try one of our other schemes in a Premium or Deluxe Room.

Kind regards, Vince

A last minute booking took us to a suite at the Majestic. Huge space but very, very tired with a bathroom that wouldn't be out of place in an Eastbourne B&B. Room was clean but sparse. Did the previous guest steal the cushions from our stained sofa, swing off the wardrobe door, plant the weeds on the balcony, pocket the face cloths and magazines? No wifi in the room and also hit for a hefty charge to park our car in the hotel car park - really?

Breakfast was average at best - the bread stale, mushrooms elderly (yes, they will notice even if they are cooked, chef), bacon under cooked, eggs greasy. Decaf coffee is my poison of choice and that came in a sachet - avoid.

We had been to the Best Western in Doncaster the previous night and it wiped the floor with the Majestic.

Whilst not all bad, I'm sure the Majestic could try harder.

A beautiful hotel ripe for redevelopment in our view - we hope to return when they've redecorated.

Room Tip: Go to the Best Western

Arrived weekend before Tour de France and there was a lot going on in the hotel and surroundings which made it a little more interesting than usual! Room not too bad, bed a little uncomfortable for me, but the bath in my room and our friends could have been cleaner. Our package was bed/breakfast/evening meal, all the food evening and breakfast was lovely and staff very helpfull. The leisure facilities were not particularily great, my biggest dislike was seperate male/female saunas in changing rooms. However overall we had a good experience and all the reception and restaurant staff were very hepfull.
