Stayed for one night at Ascot House during the Crime Writers Festival weekend. The staff were very friendly and helpful right from the start. We were allowed to check in at 1pm and we ordered pots of tea to drink outside in the beautiful garden in the lovely sunshine. Our room was a classic or cosy twin and was a decent size, good decor and spotlessly clean. Our only problem was that the weather was freakishly hot that weekend and, as I thought I'd read that the rooms were air conditioned, we didn't bring fans with us. We didn't ask the staff for a fan so don't know if they would be provided on request. Having said that under normal weather conditions the room would have been ideal.

We loved the attention to detail and had a delicious cooked breakfast in the morning. There is a good sized car park and free parking on the main road and the side road next to the car park.

It's an easy 5-10 minute walk into the town centre and easy to find if you're driving in from various locations.

I would heartily recommend this hotel and plan to stay again when I'm next in Harrogate.

We stayed here for 1 night without children and found this hotel mostly good. There were plenty of car parking spaces when we arrived at Saturday lunchtime, but the spaces were small. The reception staff, and in fact all the staff we came across were very helpful and we were able to check in early. The room was medium sized and nicely decorated. It had everything we needed. i thought it was a little expensive for what it was. The location of the hotel is great, about a 10 minute walk from the centre. As we left to go out for dinner the restaurant at the hotel was busy, I think there were some 90th birthday celebrations getting underway. I would have rated this hotel higher but when we returned there was a disco underway. We could hear it quite clearly from our room (room 3) but thought it would stop soon. We did want to have a quiet drink at the bar, but it was very busy so decided to take them back to our room. It was only then the bar person mentioned the disco would be going on till midnight. We were disappointed it was so late, given how clear it was in our room. Thankfully we had had a couple of drinks so were able to fall asleep as it was finishing, however at breakfast the following morning we noticed many of the guests were much older than ourselves and quite probably would have wanted to go to bed earlier in the night. There was no mention on the website when booking or when checking in even that there would be a function, especially one going on so late.
Breakfast was great, a tradition cooked breakfast for my husband and an inventive vegetarian cooked breakfast for me. It was all great and just such a shame there was the amount of noise there was till the time it was.

Food is good and reasonably priced. Location is good for central Harrogate. Parking is not only limited but very very tight. Large cars ie estates may struggle but talk to the staff about alternative options. Any queries or requests you may have, ring in advance or talk to the staff. I found them nothing but helpful and met all my requests.

When I say Umberto is a star, he really is. He is the ultimate professional.

This hotel could easy have achieved five stars from me but the room rate was too high for a single which really was a box room with the tiniest of shower rooms (£174 for 3 nights).

Stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. Hotel is in an excellent location, just a few minutes drive from the main pedestrianised shopping streets near the Victoria Shopping Centre. The hotel is a grand looking Victorian house. It does have its own car park which provides parking for around 12 cars? (I believe there are around 19 rooms in total). When we visited we had to park on the street outside, but this wasn't a problem and was free. Bedrooms: we asked for ground floor rooms and were shown to rooms at the rear of the hotel (down 5 steps). Room 1 (superior room with super king sized bed and seating area. Bathroom consisted of bath with shower over. Room 4 was also a superior room with super king sized bed (split up as twin beds). Bathroom consisted of a large shower). Dining room clean, bright with wonderful ornate plaster ceilings and large sash windows. Good choice of food available and SUPERB QUALITY!
Staff: The staff are all really friendly and they go out of their way to help in any way they can. ~A big thank you to the young spanish lady in the dining room for you help!
If you are planning to stay in Harrogate ..... then you have to stay in this lovely small hotel... you won't be disappointed.... we loved it!

Room Tip: Rooms 1 and 4 on the ground floor (easier access). Large superior rooms and are at the back of the...

What a lovely hotel! I stayed here back in May when my partner and I had a Segway experience booked at Ripley Castle. We decided to make a weekend of it so booked a night here.

The day we had our Segway experience booked, it rained and it rained and it rained, then it rained some more... Typical! By the time we were on the segways (great fun by the way if you're thinking of doing it!) it was hailing on us! We didn't let that spoil our fun but as you can imagine, by the end of it all we wanted to do was relax! Thankfully, this hotel was waiting for us ready to offer us just that! Phew. We arrived soggy and muddy and looking thoroughly in need of a home. We got there about 2ish and our room was ready so we could head straight up. We'd booked the turret room and it was simply wonderful. A great big sleigh bed welcomed us in, there were a plenitude of tea bags and coffee sachet's waiting next to the kettle, a big widescreen television on the wall, a little table and chairs in the turret with full length windows where we could sit and watch the rain (and pity the poor people still stuck outside in it!), some luxurious dressing gowns ready to reward us for our efforts that day, and a lovely clean bathroom with a great big bath and complimentary toiletries! Heaven.

The rain was still hammering it down outside and the last thing we wanted to do was go back out in it! We had a table booked at a restaurant for 7:30 so that gave us 5 hours of pure relaxation time. Luckily, I had prepared for such eventualities... a Little rummage through my suitcase produced a bottle of champers, 2 plastic glasses and a face pack. We stuck the champs in the sink in some cold water to chill and I ran myself a wonderfully luxurious bubble bath using up all the complimentary smellies. For the rest of the afternoon we did nothing but pamper ourselves wrapped up in our fluffy dressing gowns, drink champagne, watch telly here and there, and enjoy the view of the rain outside from inside our lovely cosy warm room. If your plans get rained off when you go away then I don't think there is a better alternative than that! Thank heavens we were staying in such a wonderful hotel, otherwise it could have been a very different story.

The next morning the sun shone for us, so we set ourselves up for the day with a fantastic full English breakfast, which thanks to the pick n mix options can be made to exactly how you choose. We asked the hotel if we could keep our car in their free car park for the day (even though we'd now checked out) and they were happy to oblige, and we were free to explore Harrogate for the day (the town centre being just a short walk away).

When we got back from town to collect the car, we enjoyed some final rays of sunshine in the hotel garden with some drinks from the bar, and I was very sad to say goodbye. Next time I will definitely stay for longer!

Dinner tip: If you stay here and don't want to eat here each night, then check out Bed. It's a restaurant just a 10 min walk away and it is fantastic! They're on TA if you want to see some reviews.

I stayed at The Ascot House Hotel with a friend recently and would recommend it to anyone. It is clean, warm, and comfortable and has good car parking on site. The breakfast is more than ample and I have never eaten such delicious porridge! It would have been nice to have a little quiet music playing in the breakfast room to help muffle individual conversations - I spent the whole breakfast talking in whispers because there were only a couple of other tables occupied by the time we got there.
