“Excellent stay”
Reviewed 27 April 2014

We had a weekend college reunion B & B break at the Ascot Hotel with 3 other couples. The reception was very good and efficient and our room was ready even though we arrived well before normal check in time. The bar area was large and comfortable and reception ensured we were looked after with bar snacks and drinks whilst we awaited our friends. There is on site car parking but the spaces were tight, we all left our cars parked for the weekend as the walk into Harrogate centre is only 10 minutes away.

The room and the whole of the hotel had a very recent renovation/restoration and we could not fault it. The en suite shower was top quality as were all the bed linen and pillows. We had an undisturbed comfortable sleep.

We decided to take dinner for both nights and the food was all of high quality, well cooked, good selection and very generous portions. The wine list was adequate and reasonably priced. The staff were a delight, in particular the "maître de" who looked after us superbly, thank you.

The breakfast which is cooked to order was sublime and I recommend wholeheartedly the full breakfast with black pudding to die for.

On the Saturday there was a large reception booked for a wedding anniversary and we were asked to take an early dinner at 7. This presented no problems for us and our meals were all served on time and to a good standard.

On the the Sunday morning we noticed enormous mounds of fresh Yorkshire Puddings being prepared for lunch. We all commented on this whilst regretting we all had to leave pre lunch. At check out we were all presented with doggy bags of the Yorkshire Pudding! An excellent touch.

I'd have no hesitation in recommending the Ascot Hotel as a very well run family hotel within a short distance of all of Harrogate town centre amenities.

Cannot praise this hotel enough. We stayed for a couple of nights for our anniversary. Room was wonderful - excellently decorated, spacious and comfortable. Great breakfast and fantastic service throughout. Location is great for Harrogate centre. Would definitely recommend and stay again. Excellent value for money as well.

We stayed two nights at the Ascot House, based on its Tripadvisor rating and location. The latter proved ideal for our visit to the Harrogate Spring Flower Show, as it was an easy walk from Ascot House to the Bus Station for the shuttle bus to the show - although scheduled buses also pass the hotel. The hotel fully lived up to expectations as regards comfort, cleanliness, service and food.

We stayed in Room 28, a loft room which might not suit taller or wider people than we are, but which we found light, cosy and quiet, with a spotless and well laid-out bathroom with electric shower over a full-size bath. The stairs to the loft are also steep and narrow, which might cause problems for larger or less-able guests - but the booking website does enable one to chose a specific room. Our room was also well-equipped, with 2 TVs - one in the sitting area and one facing the bed - radio, and CD-player/MP3 dock, plus the essential tea/coffee-making facilities.

We had dinner on both nights - a fairly limited menu, but this gives reassurance that everything is freshly cooked, The wine list is also fairly short, but provides a good selection at reasonable prices. We can't comment on the reasonableness of the bar drinks' prices, as these were omitted from our bill in error. When I pointed this out on checking out (as we will want to stay here again), the cost was waived! As other reviewers have commented, breakfast was excellent, with the hot food really hot - as it was at dinner.

Parking is fairly limited, but we found a space, and on-street parking nearby is free. There are also local shops - including a Sainsbury's Local - on Kings Road within a few minutes walk. There are also several other hotels and B&Bs nearby - but why go anywhere other than Ascot House?

Room Tip: Rooms 27 and 28, in the Loft of the old house, are spacious yet cosy, if you are fit and not too tal...

Stayed overnight after watching Jon Richardson in the Royal Hall - the Royal Hall is a fantastic venueand if in Harrogate, it is a must see venue. Spotted Ascot Hotel on Hotels.com and it had great reviews - this hotel did not let those "reviewers" down - really friendly welcome, superb room with all the amenities, very clean and the breakfast was superb. They also served evening meal which looked lovely but we ate out at Timberlakes (that was fantastic as well) in the City centre. Location was excellent as only a five minute walk into the centre of Harrogate with lots of car park spaces available. I think the rank of number 2 in Harrogate says it all. Thanks for a lovely stay and a warm welcome without being OTT.

Room Tip: Had room 28 (executive room) and was great - worth that little extra with a lovelt ensuite (bath and...

After staying in many hotels in Harrogate, the Ascot is by far the best. Friendly, courteous and helpful staff, great price and lovely building. We enjoyed an evening meal and breakfast which were both amazing, and the bar offers drinks at very reasonable prices. We stayed in room 4 which was great, super clean, king size bed, big tv, bath and shower. The hotel offers free car parking which is always a bonus. Would definitely recommend and will certainly be going again.

Stayed for two nights in a standard room and most enjoyable. Warm welcome and very clean and well maintained. The breakfasts were exceptionally good, served by a very friendly gentleman, set us up very well for the day.
One criticism was the bed linen was of a poor quality, the pillow cases particularly so but it wouldn't stop us recommending this hotel to others.
