We travelled here in October to attend a conference at the adjoining HIC. The location of the hotel is convenient for both the HIC and the town centre, and was simple to find.
Check-in by the male receptionist was perfunctory. He continued his conversation with his colleague for the duration. There was no mention of breakfast times or location for same, nor any mention of any other facilities or services available to guests.
The room was on the fifth floor. The weather during our stay was abysmal so I can't comment on what the view might be on a clear day.
The lifts are rather slow.
One afternoon, I enquired at Reception about leisure facilities. I was told the hotel had a small gym. I asked if I was correct in thinking that the hotel offered complementary access to a nearby leisure centre. The response was a jaded "Oh, you mean the Academy? Yeah". I then had to enquire if I needed any hotel pass for this, "No". How do they know I'm a guest here? "Just show your keycard" OK. Do I need an exit pass for the car park? "Yes". May I have one please? "You want it now?" Yes please, I want to visit the Academy. "Oh, ok. Hang on"
A little bit of training would have made it feel less like I had to drag every word out of the female receptionist.
The hotel room itself was clean but felt well worn. The room had one double bed but looked like at some stage it had had 2 beds, because the fixed bedside tables were extremely far apart.
Some extra sockets would have been useful. I assume the hotel has many business guests. There weren't enough sockets to charge mobile phones and laptops at the same time, and that was even when we unplugged other things!
As for the wifi charges... They really do need to look at these. It feels as it they've plucked a random number and decided to just charge that amount. I would expect that to be included in the rate paid by all guests and not just those who are signed up to some special promotions club.

Would I stay here again? Only if I had to attend another conference at the adjacent HIC. Otherwise, I can't see any reason to return.

It's an average hotel, charging for it's location rather than service. As long as you know that in advance, you won't be too disappointed.

(As an aside, the staff at The Academy Health Club couldn't have been nicer. And they also provide towels and free wifi!)

Room Tip: An upper floor will potentially offer you a better view, however when we stayed all we could see was...

I travelled home with my partner for Christmas and we spent Christmas day night at the hotel in one of the executive suites. The service was lovely, the room was very clean, spacious and comfortable. The breakfast was lovely food was well stocked on the buffet and plenty of variety and the staff in the restaurant and at reception were helpful and efficient. Location of the hotel was perfect for travelling to see family and friends and to get into the town centre quickly.

Room Tip: The executive suite was lovely and the view on the upper floors is beautiful

Requested upper floor rand got floor 10 giving beautiful views over the town and nearby countryside. Booked as a mystery hotel on super break so got a very good deal. however as we booked late, super break hadn't passed on our details so hotel had no record of our booking when we first arrived. Got 2 free drinks and free wi if for signing up for their loyalty scheme. nice size room with very large bed that turned out to be two big single beds joined together- this was ok- since we booked late and asked for a double. bathroom was very good with lots of nice big fluffy towels. The two dine for £30 offer in the restaurant was very good value with 2 sizeable courses and wine. Breakfast also very good. We used the small free gym on the second floor which was sufficient- though if you want to use the free gym and swimming pool that is advertised it is a 5 minute drive away- so not really convenient for a short weekend stay.
it costs £7 a day in the hotel car park - but this is very secure and you can walk easily into the town centre from her. the £7 fee lasted from 11am on the day we arrived until the end of the next day- so it was actually good value considering the cost of parking in the town. Harrogate is a really beautiful town and this was excellent post Christmas stay. Would highly recommend.

Room Tip: Request a room on an upper floor. Sign up to their loyalty scheme.

Annual festive time visit to Harrogate. 3rd year staying at the Holiday Inn in Harrogate. Happy to say another lovely trip to such a nice town and a pleasant stay at this hotel.

Checked in nice and quickly into an Executive King Bed room. Room and bathroom was very clean and smart. Unfortunately did have a mark on a bed sheet but a quick call to reception got new sheets within 5 minutes.

Room was well equipped with all the usual amenities but no free Wi-Fi available. The welcome letter did say it will be available free of charge from 2014 however.

Booking included breakfast which is served buffet style. Full wide selection of drinks, juices, cereals and cooked breakfast items. Cooked breakfast was all freshly prepared and great quality for the price.

Plenty of underground parking at the hotel but is charged at £7 overnight. Would be nice to see this either free or reduced for hotel guests especially with the number of spaces available.

A nice comfy stay and will book again when visiting Harrogate next time.
