Stayed here 2 nights in June to attend a wedding and its fair to say I won't ever be going back.1st the good bits, we were able to check in early as luck had it and I managed to get a car space plus the bed was comfortable but thats it as far as the good comments go.
I know the hotel is old and we have allowed for this ... but as we were finding our way to our room the corridors became more and more dingy so when we opened our door it just confirmed our worst expectations. The room 159 was fairly dark as we backed onto another building,it was clean but so dull, it looked cheap, not what I was expecting for £120 a night, the furniture was cheap looking and I can honestly say we stayed in the room the minimum time possible. The room had no fridge / mini bar and the bathroom although large had no extraction so after 2 showers you just had to keep the door shut till the steam disapated. We were with 5 other couples who all felt sadly dissapointed by the poor quality rooms.Unfortnuately the best bit is the front of the hotel and it goes down hill fast from there. I'm sure if people view their room 1st , many would simply say thanks, but no thankyou at that price there must be better value hotels in Harrogate which seemed a nice place.

Room Tip: Ask to see your room 1st we were in room 159 but I seen room 158 160 and all rubbish.

Hello

many thanks for taking the time to write your comments on Trip Advisor, i am please that you were able to secure an early checkin.
Unfortunately with a hotel of this size and location not every room is going to have a good view, refurbishing the hotel is an ongoing process, which i believe corridors are to be changed in the future.

Thank you again for taking the time to write the review, I would hope that we can welcome you back to The Crown again.

Kind Regards

Creaking floor boards, stained glass windows, magnificent high ceilings, detailed architrave, what a wonderful work of art The Crown is!

An impromptu night in Harrogate before moving on had us choose from a list of hotels. We are very pleased that we chose this one!

Location is perfect! Betty's tea rooms are just around the corner, marvellous!

The staff at the Crown are very friendly and helpful.
Breakfast was superb and included in the rate which adds value to the stay.
Our twin room was spacious, immaculately clean with a good sized bathroom.

All in all superb value for money.

We were en-route to Lincoln and decided to stop off in Harrogate. We did a quick search on the GPS and found the Crown hotel. It is a stunning example of Victorian architecture - wonderful in its excess. The staff were very friendly, the room was warm and inviting. We had dinner in the restaurant and it was good, honest fare, served by very efficient waiting staff.
We ordered the scrambled eggs with smoked salmon for breakfast, which was a bit of a mistake (the eggs had been worried to death), but there were lots of other tempting things to choose from. The tariff included breakfast and (don't tell them) we would have happily paid the price per person that they charged for the two of us! We didn't expect breakfast to be included at the price they charged.

Stayed at this hotel one night on Friday the 8th June 2012 attending a reunion event. The check in was friendly and informative. The room of an excellent standard. The breakfast was also excellent. The hotel location was also excellent right in the centre of Harrogate. The only gripe was the limited parking at the front of the hotel. I had to park in a public car park literally 30 metres from the hotel for a short while after checking in till 6 pm when on street parking was free until 8 am the following morning. No great problem there for me! Would I stay there again - yes most definately and would I recommend this hotel - yes.

We went to this Hotel on a Living & Social Voucher for the Crown Jubilee Champagne Afternoon Tea for Two at a cost of £19.we had an amazing time here with a glass of Sparkling Wine and not "Champagne " as it was advertised (trading Standards need to be informed I think) we were greeted in a very warm and friendly manner.....shown to our table ......the Afternoon Tea consisted of delicious sandwiched with the crusts cut off.. we had Ham, Cucumber (as one would expect) and Egg with Cress..........delicious, various large pieces of cake, massive fresh Scones with lashings of Jam and Cream.........and lashing of unlimited hot drinks to was it all down with...we could have stayed much longer that we did, nothing was to much trouble we were given a parking permit for the grounds of the Hotel........we went into the bard for a drink and a nosey around............ the same level of service was also offered........amazing couple of hours well spent and a great deal offer.......Fantastic

Room Tip: We only went for afternoon Tea but would not hesitate to reserve a table for dining or to stay over...

We attended a wedding held at the Crown Hotel. Staying on site for us, was the ideal solution. The welcome we received from the reception (especially Emily - always smiling) was very good. As there was no parking available on the first night we were told where we could park in a street a few minutes walk away. We were lucky the following morning as some guests left, we were able to move the car to the parking right by the front door!
the room was fine, yes the floor boards creak but then after all it is an old building. We would have preffered a room with a better view - we were at the back, looking out at a wall with windows. As we knew we were only going to be sleeping there did not make an isssue of it or asked to be changed - but then being where we were it was extremely quiet. The bed was a bit soft or old?? One thing I found missing, was a long mirror!! Personally would have preffered a shower, than a bath one had to step into. The sink had a crack. Probably the bathrooms should be updated!
The breakfast is served in a wonderful room, the usual cold buffet and hot food - Tea Coffee served to you at the table.
The hotel is in a great position, just opposite the lovely Canal Gardens, where we had a walk - with shops on the door step.

This hotel with its magnificent frontage should be given a try by anyone staying at Harrogate.
The staff were helpful and obliging, without being intrusive, not always the case in some 'ultra' modern establishments who want everything from your e-mail to occupation! There are some hidden corners of this building that would benefit from some more TLC. But this is an old hotel and some floorboards may creak a little.
My advice is to go and enjoy it's superb oak carvings, high ceilings and cornices. The long corridors, listed front door etc. Tune yourself to the fact that every third step you take will awake a creaking board!
Finally, do not leave without dinning in their fabulous restaurant. My partner and I took advantage of a special offer, wow!!! Perfection on a plate for only £39 (that's for two) and a bottle of wine was included. Forget London, get up to The Crown at Harrogate.
