Arrived here to find a really big car park and spaces.room was exceptionally clean and of good size.breakfast was first class, help yourself to fruit juices, cereal, rolls and best of all fresh, yes, fresh fruit salad. Then you have an extensive choice of bacon ect, toast and jams.no room for lunch. Dinner was excellent too.there was a coach party in but it caused no problem at all. I saw people had commented on the decor before my review...what do you want for the money? Carpets a little worn in places and decor a little dated. All in keeping with the age of the hotel.immaculate with fantastic staff. Will be back.

Large free car park.

Exterior of building needs some TLC!

Bedroom was good size and well equipped although could have done with a lick of paint!

Breakfast was buffet style but well presented.

Very pleasant staff.

Stayed for one night at the end of May and was happy with everything, wish I had been able to stay another night. Arrived about 1.5 hours before check in, had a small delay in finding a parking space due to a large bridge competition but not much of a problem as the car park is huge. The Cairn hotel is a big old grand hotel and yes there are areas that need updating but it would probably cost millions for a hotel of this size. I paid £75 for a double room with full english breakfast and thought that was very good value. When we checked in we were given room 141, and after about 20 minutes I thought it was a very dark room, it overlooked a roof with hardly any natural light. We were going to accept it, then I thought i'm going to ask if we could be moved to another room. So, I rang down to reception and within 10 minutes the porter, (who was very polite and helpful) came up and moved us to the other side, on the same floor (room 144) what a difference it made to have the sun shining in. It also overlooked the gardens. The room was spacious clean and comfortable, nice and warm, and the window could be opened. Very comfortable bed, and a great bathroom. Breakfast was very nice, with tea and coffee brought to the table. Dining room was large and very smart. All the staff were genuinely very nice and very professional. I would be happy to stay again when I return to Harrogate. The hotel is about a 5 minute walk from the turkish baths, downhill, so if walking to the centre be prepared to walk up hill and down ! The Cairn has the largest sprung dance floor in the UK and seems to have some great events on through the year !

We had a one night night stay in this hotel, thankfully that was all. We booked a "club room" , but apart from the a few celebrations chocolate's and a couple of small bottles of cheap wine, there would appear to be nothing special about the room. The general decor of the hotel was shoddy. Carpet held down with gaffer tape. Creaky floors meant it was very noisy along the corridor.

The breakfast can only be described as basic, for the money you should expect better, watered down 'fresh orange', indifferent coffee To top it all the brown bread had GREEN MOULD on it . would not recommend this hotel at all.
The bedside lamp was covered in dust indicating another poor level attention to detail.

We were there with a large group so a mixed of opinion. Our room was very comfortable and decor was good. Clean, warm, good shower over a bath. Nice little touches.
This has been a GRAND hotel in its heyday and must need a lot of maintenance. The staff are very friendly and customer care is excellent. Gaynor the manager is very visible and keen to show leadership and roll up her sleeves to get things done.

Personally dont like queuing in the dinner hall but then you get what you want when that happens. The toaster at breakfast was the bane of my life. It either came out pale or when it went back in came out burnt.

All in all it was a great holidy at the Cairn and the location is great with the town walking distance. The bus stops just outside the hotel to wander further.

Would go back.

Room Tip: Our room faced West and caught the sun in the afternoon. After a busy day great to lie down on my b...
