A very comfortable and clean hotel. Nice bathroom and lovely clean crisp white sheets with a blanket on the bed and plenty of space to hang clothes in the wardrobe which also contained an iron and hairdryer. There was also a kettle, cups, tea and coffee but we didnt find them till the next morning on check out time because it was in a cupboard under the television though there was a bottle of mineral water in the room when we arrived. Didn't have a deal on the room and a meal together so found it a bit pricey in the hotel restaurant, very small portions so we were both still hungry. After dinner went to the bar, drink prices were ok and it was a lovely comfortable room. Staff were very friendly and helpful throughout the hotel so would go back to the old swan just would'nt eat in the restaurant.

The hotel indicated that it was an AA 5* hotel, in my opinion at best 3*. Arrived at 2pm Sunday afternoon only to be told our room would not be ready until 4. Advised to take a walk into the town in the rain. Room was in the 'loft' small with a bathroom which was of very poor design. Possibly owing to the fact we were on a Groupon Voucher. Never again!!!!
The serving of breakfast was slow. After 30 mins wait asked the waitress if we had been forgotten, waited a further 15 minutes for very hard poached egg & undercooked bacon. Several other guests walked out. The simple problem was that they were under staffed, the receptionist doubled up as barman, just like Faulty Towers!
On a positive note the hotel was clean & despite the problems faced by the reception staff amazingly polite. Would I stay again, I don't think so as there is a plethora of good hotels in Harrogate sadly, in my opinion, this isn’t one of them.

My husband and I booked the winter warmer deal with Classic Lodges.
We had a lovely room on the first floor at the front of the hotel. The room was clean and very warm. Bed, breakfast and a 3 course evening meal and a bottle of Prosecco was included for £99 per night for 2 people. We thought it was an amazing deal and it was great value for money.

The evening meal was delicious. On our first evening the service was excellent but there were only a few guests dining. The following evening although the meal was still very good the service was very slow due to lack of staff and a full dining room. A little disappointing, but we felt the hotel and the excellent service the rest of the time was good enough for us to recommend the hotel and we certainly would visit again.
The plasterwork and glass ceiling in the room where we had breakfast was simply beautiful. The hotel itself was full of character, just as we expected.
All in all a lovely stay in a lovely hotel.

ideally situated within easy walking distance of the town. The staff were excellent, particularly on reception. The room was comfortable and clean and the bathroom facilities were excellent. The hotel was really quiet and peaceful with a pleasant and friendly atmosphere. We had a delightful afternoon tea there. My only criticism is the cooked breakfast which, considering it was cooked to order, was only very average. Someone can't poach eggs ! Undercooked, fatty bacon is not good and the baked beans had been kept waiting on the very hot plates until they were almost glued on !! The coffee was also mediocre.
having said that, we will definately stay there again and will recommend the hotel to friends and family.

Room Tip: Thehotel is well sound proofed , we found it extremely quiet. Plenty of parking on site too.

The Old Swan is a lovely hotel with beautiful rooms set in in a quiet but central location in Harrogate. The food and service were very good and the staff particularly attentive and friendly.

The hotel, though generally cleand and tidy, in our opinion is starting to look a little sad in places - and is in need of a facelift.
Staff are friendly and courtious.
However, one of the two breakfast mornings we had needed a lot to be desired.
We were allowed to sit were we wished, and out "tea/coffee" order was taken by a lady who seemed more annoyed that the rosta's had not been thought out, and they were short staffed (for the number of people at breakfast), than about us as the hungru customers in her care.
She took our order, brought the tea and toast, then we waited over 45 minutes and still did not get our breakfast. We told her we could wait no longer and were leaving - to which she did not even offer an explanation or apology.
We did report it to their reception, who were polite and apologetic.
Second day was fine, we were in, fed and watered in less than 45 minutes, with apparently the same number of guests???
When we settled the bill, we were given our eveing meal as compensation for the "breakfast" and apologies again, but it did put a shadow over our stay, and we would think twice before going again.

Hotel rooms 149-151 avoid! Noise from the kitchens below didn't stop during our stay, day or night! Room was cold and basic. Hotel lacked atmosphere without any 4 star facilities - for a better room, atmosphere and price go to the nearest Premier Inn. Premier Inn is not my preferred choice of hotel on a leisure break but would have been better value for money!!

Room Tip: Avoid any that are the kitchen or the ballroom
