We stayed for 2 nights bed and breakfast, the location was reasonable in relation to the town, there was a wedding reception on the first day of our arrival, which made it almost impossible to get served at the bar for a drink let alone order a bar meal the queues were 10 deep of persons awaiting getting served. On reading the menu the over inflated meal prices were definately out of this world, £9.50 for a bacon, lettuce and tomatoe sandwich !!!
The noise from the wedding guests banging doors and shouting was unacceptable.
The room was average in size, but was far too warm, with little advantage being gained by opening a window cms.... The breakfast was good, with a huge selection of food, fresh fruit, cereal as well as a cooked Yorkshire breakfast including fried bread, and black dag. The first flooor corridor smelled of boiled cabbage I was uncertain at first if it was the underground sulphur springs, but it was far more reminiscent of cabbage !

Stayed for one night on a special deal including dinner bed and breakfast for £94. This was a really good value deal.

The room was a good size and had everything we needed. There appeared to be not one, but two wedding receptions being held there on the Saturday night while we were staying.

The dinner was good, but, and this is the Fawlty tower bit, they forgot the veg with our mains. On its own not a big issue, but then we ordered teas to be served in the bar. When they arrived, first, we found something in the milk. OK you might think, whats the big deal, well, the something turned out to be a serviette. How the heck did that get in there. We called for a member of staff who stood and looked at it for a while before saying that he was at a loss as to how it got there!!! We asked for fresh milk which arrived eventually, with no apology at all. Then when we poured the tea, it was cold and stewed and my friend found something black and about the size of a finger nail in her tea. We requested fresh tea, which arrived, with no fresh milk and the server did not take away the previous cups. Sigh!! We gave up and went to bed as the wedding guests were taking over the bar.

After a very disturbed nights sleep, thanks to the noisy wedding guests banging on doors and shouting until at least 2.30am, followed by barrels being rolled in the yard below we were looking forward to a better experience on day two.

At breakfast the following morning, the staff seemed totally incapable of providing any kind of professional service.

The service, or lack of it, is a real shame as the food was food and this is a nice hotel,

We stayed as part of a wedding party with some friends, the meal was great and the staff were fantastic particularly a lovely young man behind the bar called steve, he was such a lovely boy and went out of his way to make all of the wedding guests feel welcome and in good hands, the following morning he was very assertive to assist us with tea, coffee and some teacakes from the fantastic bar menu, he moved tables and chairs for us as we were quite a big group, we had a lovely stay and would deffinatley stay again.

Stayed for one night on a special summer offer and have to say we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. We arrived later than expected, but the staff on reception were very helpful and quickly arranged dinner for us in the restaurant. Our room was quite big and comfortable, overlooking the gardens at the front of the hotel and the bathroom was fine with an excellent shower. Dinner and breakfast were very good. This is an old hotel and as such has loads of character even if some parts are a little frayed at the edges. It is in an excellent position for the centre of Harrogate and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a short break in this lovely town.

My wife and I booked the special offer of one night dinner bed and breakfast with the jubilee afternoon tea for £99.The hotel was very nice oldy worldy and the room was a fair size and clean and comfortable. The only minor gripe was the small bathroom but everything else was so good we could overlook that.We enjoyed our evening meal in the lovely dining room and the service was excellent and the same for breakfast. Our afternoon tea which we enjoyed sitting in the sun at the front of the hotel was really good and very filling. All in all it was great value especially when you consider the free parking. We have been to Harrogate many times and stopped in most of the major hotels there and have always been disgusted with the parking charges. We will be returning to the Old Swan

Impressive from the outside, but inside tatty, shabby and dated.
Room not serviced till afternoon. Part way through stay the toilet seat fell off. Lent it against wall, so that it was obvious to staff, but still hadn't been fixed when we left.
Complimentary afternoon tea on one day. Hot drinks brought along with napkins and cutlery. Twenty minutes later still waiting for food. Queried the wait and other couples also waiting started to complain. Over half an hour after ordering, food eventually arrived. Sandwiches had started to go stale at edges as though they had been left out uncovered. By this time the tea and coffee had gone cold, so had to ask for it to be replenished.
Food in restaurant varied between lukewarm to stone-cold. People at next table were also complaining. Fish had been overcooked, was dried up and absolutely cold. Roast beef was fatty.
At breakfast items on buffet not replenished. 'Hot' food: hard poached eggs, stewed baked beans and rubbery mushrooms.
This is supposed to be a four-star hotel. Had far better at a Premier Inn.
Wouldn't recommend. Wouldn't go back.
