We stayed at the Old Swan as we were attending a family wedding nearby. The building itself is grand and old and has an old fashioned, classic atmosphere (in a good way). However..... the hotel is 4 star and charges accordingly but I am afraid it just did not live up to this billing. We had a large executive room which was nice enough but only had one window so was a little dark and uninviting. There was an issue with cleanliness as we found spots of blood on our duvet, as it was late (and our 2 month old son was asleep) we didnt bother reporting to staff at the time thinking it would be resolved when the room was made up the next day as it was clearly visible, we were wrong and it was still there the next day. The hotel is OK but for the prices they charge it should be better.

We arrived in the middle of Sunday afternoon and the hotel was heaving with guests. The receptionist was very pleasant and efficient and the downstairs public rooms were excellent.... You could almost imagine Miss Marple sitting in the lounge or the library. The room was basic but clean with lovely duvets and a good size bed. There was plenty of space.... We had room 244 which overlooked the back so was very quiet. The bathroom needed some attention mainly due to the fact it was old and had been used frequently, nothing sinister - a court of paint would be enough. Breakfast service was a little slow and the tables were not really cleaned properly between uses but the staff were running around trying their best and the cooked breakfast was very nice and hot.....much better than a buffet! All in all a good stay, we will certainly be back.

We spent three nights at this hotel and were disappointed with the size of the room and the food. We were part of a tour so maybe they do better for privately paying guests rather than groups - another couple on the tour had booked in a couple days before we started and said the food/menu was much better than they offered us as a group. The breakfast service was slow - only the cold buffet was available for self service, the rest you had to order. However, it was still as dried up as if it had been waiting in a self-service buffet style. The evening service was slow, disorganised, and we often had to ask for things they had forgotten, eg. they brought the wine but no glasses, the coffee but no milk. Pretty basic training needs were evident we thought! The evening meals were uninspiring, especially with the vegetables which were the same two nights out of the three. The reception team were polite and the main rooms large, clean and comfortable. The location was great, however. Not really up to the standard we were expecting so not value for money. We wouldn't got there again or recommend to anyone.

Room Tip: If you want a nice view, ask for a room with a view - otherwise you will get one overlooking walls o...

Had a very good stay at this Hotel. Room was clean and Tidy with the usual amenities. Breakfast was somewhat slow on the first day due I suspect to the waiter/waitress service but the second day (Sunday) was self service which suited us better and was much quicker.

Staff were pleasant and helpful (we had to change rooms due to a family matter) and accommodated our requirements with no hassle.

Room Tip: Functions can be noisy for those staying at the front of the Hotel. My parents felt this intruded in...

In a beautiful position in Harrogate, with an excellent and efficient welcome by the reception team, this hotel was a huge disappointment. The rooms are large and quiet, but everything looks tired and out-of-date. Breakfast was one of the worst I've had in a hotel for a long time - dried out egg, over cooked baked beans, and so on. I really can't recommend this hotel - but it could be fabulous. Unfortunately, that will take millions of pounds of investment.
And charging for wi-fi in a modern hotel is simply not acceptable

The rooms have high ceilings, they are very spacious ,coffee and tea making facilities, clean but a little dated, the bathroom had been refurbished very modern, and the over bath shower as good as I've ever had.
Breakfast served in a large ballroom , very good,, there was a wedding, coach party when we booked in,but everything went smoothly, an old fashioned hotel, no wonder agatha Christi decided to hide away here for ten days

Room Tip: Ask for a room near the lift unless you want to negotiate lots of fire doors and a long long walk
