“Excellant Stay”
Reviewed 12 March 2013

Stayed at this hotel in February and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the premium room, the helpfulness of the friendly staff and the really good food. The additional items at breakfast ie kippers, smoke salmon etc were without charge.
Car parking is extra (always irritating) but at least you are given a named place for your stay

Thank you for your positive review. The up-grade rooms are indeed worth a small supplement to add a bit of luxury to your holiday.
The buffet breakfast is popular with guests and chef is always pleased to hear we have received compliments regarding his food.
The car parking is just £5 a day which is a much cheaper option that the multi storey and pay and display areas, and of course the space is then guaranteed for your whole stay.
We hope to welcome you again soon.
Kind regards
Edwina Stevens

Stayed for one night and found the location of this hotel excellent. Near shops, restaurants and bars without being too noisy. Our room was located on the second floor overlooking the car park and was very quiet. The room itself was nicely decorated and the bed very comfortable with nice white linen. The bathroom could do with an update but there was plenty of hot water and nice fluffy towels and toiletries. The staff were very helpful and always had a welcoming smile. The breakfast was good with fresh fruit, yoghurt and of course the usual cooked options. The coffee was also very nice and very hot. I would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: Our room overlooking the car park was very quiet

We stayed at this hotel from 4 - 8 March 2013. Harrogate is a really lovely city and I am sure much better appreciated in the summer when it is warm and dry. The hotel is well situated near the city centre and is well served by the busy bus route.

Our reception was well received but I was not impressed with the car parking arrangements (or the £5.00 a day for the priviledge). The space I had reserved was taken up with a guest's car who had apparently gone to hospital. \i did find a place in the very crowded car park and there my vehicle stayed.

The hotel is a fine old building lovely and warm and most of the staff were quite friendly. It is in need of some TLC but I believe this is in hand on the first floor?

We got to our room 221 and at first thought it was really clean and fresh. That was until I lifted the toilet seat and found that the chain had not been pulled. Disgusting. The duty manager came up and we were moved top Room 203. This was clean. It was however on the main road and the traffic noise from 0530 was a nuisance.

The food was very good and all of the restaurant staff (with the exception of one Maitre d') were pleasant, helpful and attentive. They were all very professional.

The hotel has a gym, swimming pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. We used all ofn the facilities and they were excellent as were the staff.

The drinks were very expensive but this was a little offset by our package deal. I also thought the rooms for non package guests were very expensive £144.

Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and if the weather had been better it would have been even more pleasant. There is a wealth of walks and he bus/train service from the city centre makes for easy sightseeing. We did Ripon, Knaresborough, Leeds and York with outer trips included. I would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Try to get a room away from the main road as it is very noisy from early morning and late evening.

Just arrived home from lovely break at the St. George which was really good value. The food was very good and the staff in the restaurant were excellent. we will definitely return in the future. We got a room on the third floor and it helped with the noise outside at night. The pool and gym looked good too but we did'nt need them as we were lucky with the weather. Fortunately we had booked the car park. We felt the guests would benefit from indication signs to the stairs on the corridors. We also got a good deal at another Coast and Country Hotel by booking whilst there and receiving a 30% discount which was excellent.

Room Tip: Preferably not at the front and on the third floor for quietness.

Just stayed last night. Arrived very pleasant staff excellent value for money went to conference came. Room ok for value hotel was nice. However at 12 midnight I thought I had been transferred to a strip in magaluf 18-30 the noise outside of the room was horrendous music blasting from night club opposite hooters loud talking and laughing

Called reception who kindly offered another room but still could hear the thud thud .

This is not a critism of the hotel I felt sorry for the staff as thy obviously get lots of complaints and have said they reported this to the local council but what a shame great hotel who have no control in making this better

No sleep at all but certainly not the fault of the hotel

Thank you for taking the time to post your review, I'm glad you managed to see the positives in the hotel regardless of the problem you had with outside noise. We are, as you rightly say in your post, in contact with the local authorities regarding the noise from the club opposite and are hopeful of a solution soon. If you choose to stay with us again please contact us before your arrival and we will allocate you a quiet room at the back.
Kind Regards,
Edwina

This is a really good value for money hotel if you go on a 3 or 4 day out of season break. Half board - good buffet breakfast and three course dinner with coffee. Excellent prompt service in the dining room. A grand building set in a very convenient location for walking around this delightful Victorian spa town, but if you go by car be sure to book a parking space. The public areas of the hotel have been freshly refurbished but the bedroom - and especially the en-suite bathroom looked tired and in need of renovation.

My husband and I have had a 3 day break at the St George. The staff are super, obviously very hard working, and always happy to help.
Our bedroom was very clean, spacious and comfortable. We had a front facing room which I have to say was a little noisy in the small hours, luckily we sleep well so not too much of a problem. Breakfast excellent and dinner good value for money.

Overall a nice hotel and good location for a weekend in Harrogate.

Room Tip: Quieter room to the back of Hotel.
