Need a full day to really enjoy the grounds and gardens.
Make time to visit the Tea Rooms. Good food, server by very friendly and polite staff.
The guided tour by Dorothy was most enjoyable and very informative.
Ripley itself is a very pretty Yorkshire village and the local Church is also worth a visit
and very welcoming.
Mainly gravel to get to the main castle entrance which could be a little difficult for wheelchair
Users, but good flat paths around the garden area.

“Beautiful gardens and parkland in a really pretty village.”
Reviewed 4 August 2014

Four of us had a Segway experience in the grounds of Ripley Castle. We knew nothing about the setting but were very pleasantly surprised. The gardens are fab and we walked around for a couple of hours. There are also walks in woods and parkland along river . great place for picnic. The shop is great and we bought some plants . tea rooms near to castle very good if expensive. Had morning coffee there but walked into village and had sandwiches etc from local shop for lunch then later ice cream. Very good value. Would have taken picnic into gardens if had been more prepared. Would definitely re visit.

“Interesting piece of history, but a little too short a trip”
Reviewed 4 August 2014

Ripley Castle has been owned by the Ingleby's for nearly 700 years. It is still lived in by the Ingleby family, hence parts of it are closed to the public. The bits you are allowed to go into on a guided tour are fairly limited but the guide makes the whole experience come alive.
If you're stuck for something to kill a couple of hours this may be the attraction for you. If you're looking for a whole day out you'd better look elsewhere!
There is the customary gift shop and just outside the Castle is the tearoom.
The village of Ripley is very picturesque and worth a stroll around. The ice cream is okay. but not worth a visit all by itself.

“Beautiful grounds- terrible customer service!”
Reviewed 3 August 2014

Gorgeous grounds-perfect for a summer stroll and taking a picnic. Highlight was definitely the beautiful walled gardens... but overshadowed by a really rude member of staff who told us off for looking at a building which happened to be staff quarters (however there was no signage to indicate this). She asked whether we had tickets, briskly told us where the exit was and then walked away as we were talking to her. Terrible customer service!
