The exhibitions that were on during our visit, one on Yorkshire, and one on WW1 War posters, were both very strong and were well presented. Not a huge gallery, but the art on show was of a good quality, and there was a strong coherent narrative to both exhibitions. Well worth calling in.

I love modern art, he loves traditional. Here there were both. We went on the recommendation of a very helpful lady in tourist information, and were not the least bit disappointed. There was little on which we both agreed, but plenty for discussion. A really easy way to spend a pleasant hour.

Artists of Yorkshire was on and why haven't more people (including myself) heard of Atkinson Grimshaw? He has the best name ever and his paintings aren't bad either. Brangwyn was another unknown name and his World War 1 posters make slightly unsettling viewing but what a talent

The current exhibition is really good. There is a broad range of styles including some Hockneys which were good to see close up as well as some exceptional works by a local artist. Really worth going.

We picked a good time to visit as there was an exhibition on Yorkshire art which was very varied and included works by Turner and Hockney. They was also an exhibition of WW1 posters by Brangwyn mainly used to encourage donations to the war effort. Very realistic and relevant to the current celebrations. Would strongly recommend a visit
