“An idyllic retreat”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 June 2013

If you like the personal touch then look no further than this idyllic and romantic old house just outside Harrogate - the town is just minutes away yet when you drive down the lane to the house you feel as if you're in the countryside immediately - gardens and fields surround it and at night it's completely peaceful. The owners Paul and Janet are so friendly and thoughtful - nothing was too much trouble and they were so helpful. Our room was huge with a lovely window seat overlooking their beautiful garden. The memory foam bed meant that we slept soundly and every morning we were greeted at breakfast with a different flavoured health smoothy, a wonderful selection of cereals, fresh toast, cooked breakfast ( with lots of options) and some of Janet's wonderful pastries (she's a trained pastry chef as well as a sculptor). The house is furnished in romantically grand style with lovely touches all over the place and our ensuite bathroom had a wonderful hot shower , fluffy towels and soft bathrobes. Janet baked homemade cookies and topped up the jar in our room every day so that there was always tea, coffee and bickies whenever we came back for a rest. A mini bar of chocolate also awaited us on our pillow every night. I have to say they simply don't miss a trick here - it's a perfect place to stay for a romantic get away or if you have business in Harrogate. You won't be disappointed. We absolutely loved it and will definitely return if we're in Harrogate again. We left feeling as if we'd made some new friends.

Room Tip: Both rooms are very pretty but the big one at the back of the house has the most room.

I stayed here along with a colleague from work whilst in the North on business and we purposefully avoid 'chain' hotels now in favour of better and superior small hotels and B&B's.

We have used this policy for a couple of years now and used them all over the UK but the Hazel Manor has been the best so far by a long way. The room was large, excellently appointed with a lovely shower and a view to die for. When I am away from home with business(which I do not enjoy!!) this is perfect in terms of relaxing!!!

I totally agree with reviewer RFBR as thebreakfast and experience put larger hotels to shame.
Stay here you will love it and if you come on Leisure you will enjoy it even more.

Room Tip: I stayed in room 1

We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay with us and that it worked well for you as a business traveller. We are working hard to try and attract business travellers, as you suggest we do think of ourselves as an alternative to the "chain" hotels and try to focus on where we can add value to the experience.

Thank you for such a positive review Janet and Paul

BTW We will as per your request be "mystery shopping" later this morning and will drop you a line about our experience.

i would like to say my mom and my aunt were over-joyed to stay in Hazel Manor. the warm welcome by Paul and Janet were a great start and made you feel very special t stay in this bed and breakfast. they give you a personal touch to everything! knowing my mom and aunt their native language is Japanese, Paul and Janet hand-written the Japanese memo of tomorrow's forecast.. these things are the most valuable things these days in our accomodation and those five stars hotels are asll forgetting these personal touch!
their breakfast were amazing as Janet is a chef herself:))
again, i would recommend this bed and breakfast for sure to everyone they will not regret for sure!

It was a pleasure to host your mom and aunt. The language barrier proved no problem over the breakfast table and I am so pleased they felt welcome here at Hazel Manor.

I do hope that they enjoy the rest of their stay here in the UK.

With our best wishes Janet and Paul

I simply could not fault this B&B; the quality and equipment of the room, the food and the overall experience are far better than most hotels that I have stayed in. Janet and Paul are very welcoming; nothing is too much trouble. I asked for a gluten free breakfast and arrived to find gluten free cookies in the jar by the bed and a choice of gluten free breads and cereals for breakfast (I normally count myself lucky if a hotel manages to rustle up a slice of white bread; most don't bother). Janet's cooking is wonderful and the attention to detail was obvious in all aspects of my stay. Both Janet and Paul clearly enjoy running this B&B, not just as a business; they are genuinely interested in meeting people. I cannot recommend this place highly enough - if you are in the area, try it!

Firstly thank you for your kind words . When we ask our gusts if they have dietary requirements it is to ensure that their stay is as personalised as we can make it. You kindly advised us, in advance of your stay, your needs so catering for them was a pleasure . We are so glad you enjoyed your stay and would love to welcome you back in the future. Best wishes Janet and Paul

I had read the reviews; this should be good. I didn't expect my (& Mums) stay at Hazel Manor to exceed my expectations but it did. Really well done to Janet & Paul. In many ways I didn't feel like a hotel guest but a pampered friend. Don't stop what you are doing because it is excellent. Thank you for a lovely stay; you even arranged for the weather to be brilliant!!

Thank you for your kind words and very prompt review of your stay. We are so pleased that you (and your mum) enjoyed your stay with us. As you mention in your review we did , on this occasion ,mange to book beautiful weather for the duration of your stay but don't tell everyone as we can't always guarantee that level of "weather service" although we do try !
With our best wishes Janet and Paul

Following a very late booking (we only booked half an hour before arriving), my husband and I were met and welcomed by Paul at Hazel Manor with a most appreciated cup of Yorkshire tea. We were travelling back to London from a family wedding in Scotland and Hazel Manor was just what we needed as an overnight stop. Only wish we could have stayed longer. The house, the location, the ambiance but most importantly the welcome that both Paul and Janet offered us were second to none. The room was beautifully presented and absolutely spotless. We had a wonderful nights sleep and breakfast in the morning was a treat. We will definitely be back to once again experience the warm Yorkshire welcome and a little piece of extra special attention from our hosts. Thank you Paul and Janet for making our stay so special.
