“Another perfect stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 August 2013

Having stayed here last year (see our previous review) Hazel Manor will always be our first and only choice when visiting the Harrogate area. We booked at the last minute as a birthday treat and were very lucky they had a room available due to a cancellation. This place is very special and stands head and shoulders above all of the competition.

Hazel Manor is no doubt one of the best B&Bs not just in Harrogate but the whole country! Janet and Paul have added a few extra flourishes and new furnishings since our last visit and nothing is too much trouble for them. Tea and Janet's home-made scones on arrival was a lovely touch and the breakfasts are exceptional - better than most 5-star hotels we have stayed in. Wished we could have stayed longer and can't wait to return.

Thank you for choosing to stay with us for a second time and for writing such a positive review of your stay. We know that you love staying in Harrogate and it was a pleasure having you here again. We do hope that the plant survived the perils of the journey back to the Midlands and we look forward to a progress report on your next visit. With our best wishes Janet and Paul

I told Janet and Paul that I rarely write reviews on tripadvisor but will often rely on it when making a booking... for this magical home-away-from-home I will make an exception however as I cannot praise it enough. We travel widely, often in boutique b&bs across the continent and beyond (admittedly slightly less so now we have an 18 month old in tow) but rarely have we come across one that comes close to matching up to the excellent service and comfort that we experienced last night at Hazel Manor.

We were lucky enough to book a late cancellation to the larger of the two rooms, and I emailed ahead to check whether a young child (and a vegetarian husband) could be catered for - I was assured this was not a problem (we brought a travel cot with us). On arrival following a 6 hour drive from Surrey we were warmly welcomed by Janet and Paul with tea and home-made scones (delicious), one of Janet's scrummy biscuits for our little one and their lovely daughter even loaned our little girl her teddy for the duration of our stay. We really felt from the moment we arrived as though nothing was too much trouble, and you can easily tell they both love what they do. There is attention to detail in every aspect of the B&B - from furnishings to the welcome booklet in the rooms, from the green&blacks choccies on the pillow after turn-down, along with the following day's weather forecast (we had asked earlier if they knew of the predictions) to the extensive breakfast menu, we were just incredibly well looked-after from start to finish. Breakfast was a delight - I had read reviews of Janet's eggs Benedict and can heartily recommend, I am sure we will have to return just so I can have breakfast again! A choice of duck or chicken eggs, three different types of bacon and lots of fruit, yoghurt and cereal options. My husband was treated to veggie sausages with his full breakfast, and they'd even located some children's cutlery and plates for our daughter. Our fellow guests raved about the pancakes and said Paul had even dropped them at the local wedding they had attended the previous day.

Unfortunately the weather forecast was none too clement but that did not prevent Paul from coming out in the driving rain to wish us well on our journey on to Newcastle and wave us off. We plan to return in the near future - for longer than one night. Blissful place, visit if you can.

Beautiful location Excellent Food and Lovely People! We booked a room at Hazel Manor so that we had a place away from the hustle and bustle of all the other wedding preparations and it turned out to be a very good decision. We stayed over the night before (We were already legally married - this was the occassion of our Personal Marriage Ceremony at the Sun Pavilion in Harrogate) and on the day, the bride, her mother and daughter used this as a centre for bridal preparations.

When the car arrived (A 1932 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow) we also used the beautiful gardens as a photographic location (Janet & Paul's daughter is an aspiring photographer and took some fine photos).

We stayed a total of 3 nights and the service and accommodation was perfect. Amazing breakfasts (especially considering that myself and my wife have such particular dietary requirements - Vegatarian and Lactose Free).

We were made very welcome and enjoyed our stay immensely.

I would wholeheartedly recommend Hazel Manor to anyone.

Room Tip: At present there are just the two rooms. The one we chose had a lovely view over the fields.

Thank you for the wonderful review of your wedding day stay with us at Hazel Manor. We were blessed with the most fantastic weather which provided the perfect setting. The 1932 Rolls Royce seemed quite at home in the Manor's ground and it was loveley to share the joy of your special day. With our best wishes and and our thanks for choosing us Janet and Paul.

I came down from Glasgow for one night midweek after work and I wished I could have stayed longer. I was in the larger room with gorgeous views over fields of cows and the garden. There were lovely touches such as the organic chocolate, turndown service at night and the bottles of Bottle Green sparkling juice in the room. The contemporary art gave the room and the house an ecclectic feel.
Breakfast was a real pleasure and Janet is a great chef. Both Paul and Janet made me very welcome and I was treated to a tour of the garden and the heritage greenhouse when I expressed an interest. Would most certainly like to return with my husband and children.

Absolutely fabulous!
If you are up for a real treat, then stay at Hazel Manor. Janet and Paul know how to truly spoil their guests and will make sure they take care of every single detail.
Both rooms are beautifully appointed and offer everything you could ask for. I especially loved the super soft towels and Bathrobes and the lovely view from the bay window (Room1).
In the morning awaits you the most delicious breakfast-You definitely should try Janet’s Eggs Benedict, the best we ever had!
But most important is their warm welcome and friendliness! Janet and Paul are the perfect hosts, who make you feel most comfortable throughout your stay. We truly loved it!

We drove down after work on Friday evening, choosing to avoid motorways, as it was during the summer heat wave - not only did we avoid the usual Friday evening traffic jams, we also enjoyed a relaxed scenic journey. Arriving at Hazel Manor we were greeted with a warm welcome from Janet and Paul who instantly made us feel at ease. The house and gardens are beautiful. Janet and Paul have paid every attention to detail making for your utmost comfort. Janet offered us tea but as Hubby was hungry we declined, Janet and Paul offered local dinning options then booked our dinner reservation at the Malt Shovel an old english pub with real ale and fresh local produce including fish smoked on the premises.

Breakfast the following morning was worthy of 3 Michelin stars. The table setting was beautifully arranged, The banana and honey smoothie was delicious, there was a large array of sliced fresh fruits (some home grown), pastries, toast, jams, Greek yoghurt, yogurts, cereals, fresh fruit juice, with tea and coffee to order but the star of the show had to be Janet's eggs benedict on toasted muffins and smoked bacon SUBLIME. I don't think I will ever eat eggs benedict anywhere else without being disappointed.

We enjoyed a lovely day shopping in Harrogate's Montpelier quarter, then afternoon tea at Rudding park after which we visited Knarsborogh, too late for the rowing boats, instead we enjoyed a leisurely stroll beside the river Nidd. Paul kindly made our dinner reservations for The Square at Harrogate - bistro style good honest food. Upon our return to Hazel Manor we discovered, Janet had realised we liked a nightcap before retiring - had left a bucket of ice in our room for our return (extremely attentive hosts, Janet also leaves a minature bar of Green & Blacks chocolate during evening turn down, a flask of cold milk for the large choice of Taylor's teas, coffee and chocolate as well as delicious home baked shortbread) It's hard to believe Janet & Paul have only owned Hazel Manor since 2010 as everything is done so perfectly with such natural hosting skills.

We had planned to visit York befor heading home however we were driving passed Ripley Castle when we noticed they were holding a vintage garden party. It was like stepping back in time! We spent the entire day at Ripley but still did'nt have enough time to see most of the beautifully maintained estate.

Our weekend was all we had hoped for and more, looking forward to returning in the near future.
