“location perfect, hit and miss rooms and noisest plumbing ever”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 May 2011

we have returned to the Yorkshire for a second time. last time we had a lovely spacious room overlooking the front and had got a good deal. this weekend we paid a little more and i booked our friends in for the saturday night too and they paid £110 for room only which wasnt value for money. we changed rooms 3 times as we were initially allocated twin rooms at the rear. one in particuar had black mold all ove the bathroom ceiling. the staff did change our room with no problem and we stayed in room 212 in the centre of the hotel. the plumbing which was the same as i have seen in caravans like saniflow which made a horrendous noise as did all the adjacent rooms. it woke me all through the night which takes some doing as i am a heavy sleeper and it did spoil our stay. the bathroom while large was so dark i had to keep bringing my toilet bag out to the bedroom window to se anything. the soap dispenser fell off in the bath everytime you used it and the towel rail fell off all the time which, this makes you start looking at every detail in the rooms and realising it is a slap dash refurb with lots of corners missed and no attendtion to detail. . i agree with other reviews it was very noisy on the floorboards and as a couple who normally never bother about hotels with pub/nightclub noise etc...and sleep like logs we were disturbed everynight with the plumbing and floorboard noise. the staff were all lovely and it is a perfect location which is definately the hottels main feature. car parking is limited but you are made aware of that in the hotels details and if you are prepared to walk bit there is plenty of parking 10mins walk away. after our last visit we were keen to rebook but i felt embarrased about booking our friends in at such cost and the rooms varying so much in standard. i am not sure i would be so keen to go back now as the plumbing was so bad and if we had one of the unrefurbished rooms it is a gamble i am not sure we would take as there are lots of other central hotels. if the rooms were pulled up to scratch and they didnt book out some of the poor rooms and sort the plumbing out it could be a cracker!

Hotel very well located opposite Betty's Tearooms and one of the several parks in Harrogate. The staff are very friendly and obliging. Our room ,303 looked over the park and was well decorated and very clean. Meals were well cooked and good quality. Can't understand any negative remarks about this hotel.

A great location for a weekend break but parking was limited, though great if there's room. A dated venue where they have visibly papered over the cracks and though good as a wedding venue, as another reviewer has commented, not-so-good if you're after a peaceful stay. We couldn't determine whether the band was below us in the bar or above us in the bistro but either way it reverberated round our room on the fourth floor. Just as well we weren't after an early night.

Disturbed twice by revellers returning at silly-o'clock. Obviously not hotel's fault but noise seems to carry easily through the building.

Reasonable breakfast and good value at £50 for the room but I'd have felt totally robbed at full price (advertised at £170!).

We held our wedding reception here with many of our guests staying over. The function room was perfect for our needs and the management and staff were extremely attentive to all our needs and special requests. The bridal suite was spacious and comfortable with a large 4-poster bed.

Our room was large, comfortable and reasonably quiet. The buffet breakfast wasn't kept hot enough on either day, but there was plenty of choice. Based on our experience, the most negative reviews here appear unjustified. Yes, some elements of the decor are tired, but we weren't expecting an ultra-modern hotel. One aspect, however, seriously spoilt an otherwise pleasant stay - the parking. 35 spaces for 80 rooms in such a desirable location is a recipe for disappointment, even if tightly managed. We were lucky on arrival, but had to use on-street parking overnight on the second day. The problem is not just the £12 daily cost, but the fact that parking anywhere near the hotel is limited to just 3 hours. A day spent 'enjoying' the town will therefore be punctuated by a regular hunt for a new space. Instead of enjoying a lie-in on Saturday morning, we had to set an alarm so that the car could be moved when the ticket expired. This is a serious drawback that needs to be addressed, perhaps by an advance booking system. If, however, you're travelling without a car, then we'd recommend this hotel without hesitation.

Thank you for your recent comments on the tripadvisor website. I was pleased to read your honest, fair and kind commentson the general standard of the hotel. I am however extremely sorry that the car parking spoilt your otherwise pleasant stay.
As stated the car park has 35 spaces and we advertise on all websites the limited numbers we operate on a 'first come first served basis' mainly due to the fact that the hotel is situated on a 2 way public highway with 24hr access this unfortunatley this does not allow for spaces we can mange by a barrier system or such like. We do however have a management company who fine non authorised users to protect the use for hotel residents only. I am sorry that on this occassion you were able to benefit from this free facility. I do hope that with or with out a car you would reconsider a return visit.

I stayed at this hotel in Feb '11, for 2 nights, whilst on a conference. Room was a single and a little on the small side but you don't come to harrogate to stay in the room all day and night!

Clean room and warm.

Stunning breakfast - best mushrooms ever!

Would use again.

My wife and I stayed at the Yorkshire Hotel for two nights over a weekend and found it to be a good value place to stay. It is located within a two minute walk of Betty's Tea Rooms, and Montpellier Hill, and has complimentary parking for a limited number of cars at the front. The hotel is old, but the ground floor public areas have been modernised to a good standard. Our room was located on the 3rd floor (which looks a little tired in places) but was spacious and warm, despite the snow outside! The bathroom was nearly as big as the room itself, with decent shower pressure and plenty of hot water. The only negative to the room was the obvious water damage to a small section of wallpaper which had not been rectified. Our booking included breakfast which is served buffet style, with a reasonable choice of cereals & cold items, plus a regularly replenished cooked breakfast selection. One thing that stood out about our stay was the friendliness and helpfulness of all the staff we encountered, it made a nice change !!
