“Good location but rooms and breakfast not so good”
Reviewed 3 March 2014

I have stayed here a couple of times on business (December 2013 and February 2014). The location has to be the best thing about this hotel - it's right in the centre of Harrogate and close to all the shops, cafes, bars, and restaurants.

The hotel itself has a grand appearance and is in a historic building. I have had no problem getting parked right outside the hotel, but remember to ask for a car parking pass to display in the windscreen. The reception area is nicely fitted out, as is the bar and restaurant area. I have found all the staff to be friendly and accommodating at all times.

The rooms I have stayed in were reasonably comfortable and warm, and a very good size. Unfortunately the rooms are looking a little bit tired and in need of redecoration and refurbishment. I have also found the rooms quite dark as the lighting isn't great - the bathrooms have been especially dark.

I have eaten in the bar area, and whilst the bar menu was limited to sandwiches, snack plates, burgers, or pizzas the food I have had was fresh, hot and tasty. The breakfast unfortunately is not to the same standard - on my first visit the breakfast was a hot and cold buffet, however more recently hot food has to be ordered from the waiting staff. However the hot food came within about 2 minutes of ordered so the hot buffet is probably just in the kitchen now! I'd personally avoid ordering the scrambled eggs as they had an odd texture, almost like they were made from powdered egg. Unfortunately I can't consider the breakfast to be good value at the advertised £14.95 per head.

If you are leaving the hotel first thing in the morning by car then leave a little extra time for your journey as the traffic in central Harrogate can be quite busy.

We are sorry that the bedrooms did not live up to your initial impressions of the Hotel. Having recently taken the hotel over from the previous management company we aim to begin improving the rooms, which will include improvements where we can to the bathrooms.
The breakfast menu is soon to be replaced and will reflect a much greater choice and value for money for of all our guests.
We do hope your breakfast experience doesn’t prevent you from considering us for your next trip to Harrogate, as we would all love to welcome you back to the Yorkshire.

just returned home from a great stay at the Yorkshire Hotel, on our check in we were upgraded to a suite which was fab, lots of space to chill out in. The reception staff were very attentive and yes we parked for free right outside the hotel. The hotel is full of charm and the restaurant staff were great with nothing to much trouble, thankyou Simon, you should be very proud of your staff and yourself for excellent service (thankyou for the cocktail !!) our evening meal was fantastic , so was the breakfast we will be back again and we recommend the hotel to friends and family and to all others who are thinking of booking this hotel.

Stayed overnight on a Travelzoo deal and could not believe some of the reviews I read on Tripadvisor.
All the staff were very welcoming with particular mention of Jenna who still managed to be efficient and friendly whilst multi tasking behind the bar and waiting on.
This is old building with lots of character but absolutely nothing wrong with the facilities.
We can all find fault if we are so determined and yes there is worn carpet in the corridors and some flaking paint in the bathroom, but in an area which did not really matter.
Everything was clean and the bathroom modern. A good size TV in the room along with TWO easy chairs should you wish to stay in and watch tv, plus free wi fi if you wish to use the internet.
The hotel is right in the centre with free parking right outside the front door which is a good bonus.
We had dinner in the restaurant and it was excellent.
In fact I would give the hotel a five but for the fact it did not have double glazing in our room which faced the road and the early morning bin wagon woke us up.
I understand the hotel has only just changed hands and the new owners are planning major developments.
I look forward to returning in 12 months time to see what they have done but I hope they will try to retain the character of a good old Yorkshire hotel.

Thank you for your honest review of your stay at the Yorkshire Hotel. We do know that the hotel needs a little TLC and we do play to make improvements over the coming months. As part of this overhaul we aim to modernize but still retain that Yorkshire character you talk about.
I am glad you felt looked after by our team and we look forward to seeing you again next year.

This hotel is overpriced and awful. Sink was dirty from permanent stains. Bath was blocked. Parking is not free as it was always full or had reserved on them.If u so much as move on the beds the rest of the hotel hear!! When u complain the manager is not here but your complaints will be 'passed on' Frankly I think a lot of the positive reviews that have been left on here need to be investigated as I strongly feel there's something fishy going on!!! And do not ever order a bottle of water here they send you two bottles and add £7 on to your bill!!! The worst hotel in Harrogate!!!

We are genuinely sorry you felt your stay with us was so disappointing. We appreciate the hotel needs a little tlc and as part of the new management team at the Yorkshire we aim to improve the bedrooms in the near future. We know how important a good night’s sleep is to our guests, so as part of this overhaul we will be looking at ways to ensure all our guests get a great night’s sleep.
My biggest frustration is that we were unable to rectify the issues you had during your time with us.
We do hope that over the coming months you will give us another chance to show you just how enjoyable a stay at the Yorkshire Hotel can be.

Please call me personally when you want to come back. I hope to hear from you soon

My partner and I stated at the Yorkshire on valentines weekend. We stayed two nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the hotel.
I had previously read reviews about the hotel being dated and yes this was not a modern hotel, however fitted in with Harrogate's charm. We did not eat at the hotel so I could not comment on food. We chose to eat out, my favourite being Betty's tea rooms, just out the door of the hotel on your right.

The staff were great, very friendly and efficient . Especially the young lady on reception on our arrival Friday night, she was very polite and upgraded us to a fabulous room with a comfy bed two bathrooms and a separate living room. Our room did not have a view, this does not bother me as I like to go outside to get nice views . It was positioned at the back of the hotel and out of the bedroom section of the hotel room you could see the bar street.

Harrogate town centre is like any other town centre the outskirts are nicer. We ate at signatures and the orchid room, both very good. Betty's tea room is a must and if you have time the Turkish baths. Booking is required in advance .

Hope this helps

Having been here previously we took the opportunity to return on another 'special offer' which was two nights dinner, bed and breakfast. We went with two friends this time. Arrived early to try and get a parking space as I knew this was sometimes difficult to do. We were unable to get a space in the hotels allotted spaces but managed to get a space less than a hundred metres away for the afternoon at a small cost. Parking was then free all around from 6:00pm Saturday until 08:00 am Monday so that wasn't a problem. We managed to get one of the hotels allotted spaces on Sunday morning without a problem. We were upgraded to a suite which was tremendous. Really spacious bedroom, bathroom and separate lounge area with tea/coffee making facilities, second TV, bed settee and arm chairs. Really nice. All the staff were really friendly and helpful. Dinner was faultless. Good choice of food, well cooked and presented. Breakfast was typical help yourself, including cereals, juices, cheese, cold meats as well as a full English choices. Cannot say anything bad about it. Wine was reasonably priced although appeared to be a higher price when ordered at the dining table as opposed to getting it yourself from the bar. All in all a really nice weekend so a big thanks to everyone for making it so. Oh, and by the way the hotel is centrally situated for all the shops literally seconds away from the hotel. Definitely recommend it.

Room Tip: Room 301 didn't have much of a view but the extras that come with it make it worth getting if yo...

We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights with the deal from travelzoo and found the staff were very helpful and the room was great, very clean and excellent location. Yes i agree with some comments that the hotel could do with a lick of paint and some updated furniture but i did find that was part of the charm. We loved it and would definately go back!
