Stayed a Bank Holiday Sunday night at the HdB in Harrogate. Was going to come home, but the weather was better North than South. That was the reason we booked the room on Sunday morning and arrived an hour or two later. This meant we got a great deal. Dinner, bed and breakfast for superb price.

Superb location - just on the Stray and in the town centre. We took one of the "private access" rooms. They say that there may be noise from above, but it was very quiet. It felt like a private apartment. The only downside is that they are slightly darker.

Other HdV features were the same, super service, lovely food and wine and the fab bathrooms!

Well recommended - even better with the superb deal!! Look out for them and enjoy luxury for a bargain price!

We stayed here for 2 nights for our 1st year anniversary. The hotel looked great on the website and having stayed in various Mals, decided to give HduV a go.

We stayed in the Robert Mondavi suite, which was lovely. The room perhaps wasn't as big as you would expect, however, there is a massive balcony which more than compensates. The only drawback of this is it is on the 1st floor, and the balcony overlooks the courtyard area so you don't feel there is any privacy. Even if they put panelling around the balcony, it would be so much better, as you tend to feel as though people in the courtyard are watching you every time you move.

As others have commented, the rooms are very warm, and you seem to have no control over this. The only option for us was to leave the balcony doors open, which then let in some noise, although you soon got used to it.

On the 2nd night of our stay we had dinner in the bistro. Now although we could not fault the food, or the service, we did have a gripe the following day when we went to check out, and let this be a warning to anyone else staying there. At the end of our meal we just asked that the bill be added to our room. The next day when checking out it showed:-

Food - £74.00
Drinks - £76.00
Service Charge - £11

As I had 1 x bottle of wine @ £26 and my husband ordered 4 x individual glasses of wine, which were about £5 each - we were a bit confused as to how they arrived at £76.00! When we got reception to check over this, it turned out the restaurant had billed us for a £30 bottle of wine, which we didn't have! They did reimburse us the £30, however, had we not questioned this, we would have been £30 down.

I also had a back massage at the health spa in the hotel, and this was great - very relaxing.

All in all this is a lovely hotel, with a great location - however, it is a tad over-priced, but in saying that we would definitely return, but maybe give the bistro a miss!

Booking last minute, there was only one room available which we were told would be a little noisy - it was. Never mind though it was very clean had its own entrance from the outside so didn't have to pass through the hotel all of the time. Bar has a good selection of drinks and spending most of my time in Benelux, i was impressed that there was a good selection of Belgium Beers. Breakfast was nice, the staff really friendly and helpful. Booked a meal for the second evening and found it was pretty nice allthough had better. The wine list is extensive and I think too much choice, only about 5% of the wines under £30 so slightly over priced. All in all a nice clean hotel with friendly professional staff. Would and will, go again.

My wife and I always wanted to stay at HDV so over the bank holiday we did!

The booking was really easy and when we got to the hotel we found the parking at the back of the hotel easy to find and quieter! The staff were really very good form the time we arrived - they even brought out luggage in from the car and put it in our room whilst we had a drink! the rooms are very warm at night but you can open the windows - there is a bit of noise late at night but you do get used to it!

The food was very good, waiters good and sommelier very talented! Breakfast was very slow on one morning but when yout on holiday its ok!

The spa had only opened 2 weeks previously so I tried a massage and was not disappointed!

Overall impression was very good and yes i'd stay again.

We stayed in the Robert Mondavi room for two nights on a reasonable bed and breakfast rate - mid week offer.
The room was excellent - as expected - with huge bed and lovely bed linen; a superb monsoon shower (though in a dark enclosed space - see photo). Bath in room was lovely.
There is an extremely good balcony overlooking the courtyard, which even despite the weather we managed to sit out on for an hour!
Main negatives (though minor) were the heat in the room which meant keeping the doors open, however, due to exuberant other guests were kept awake till the early hours.
Please note that this room is situated over the courtyard which serves as the outdoor bar area.
Breakfast is excellent, particularly on a B&B deal - decided not to use the BIstro as the menu looked unappetizing and the reviews not particularly complimentary. (Wagamama or Bettys till 9pm a few hundred yards down the street, plus other restaurants in vicinity.)

I booked Hotel Du Vin for a romantic trip away and was not disappointed (Hotel Du Vin are the same chain as Mal Maison) meaning that they have mastered chic luxury and service. The room was a premier double with a split level sitting room area and then bedroom. The bathroom had a walk-in shower and free-standing bath plus heaps of toiletries. It is worth asking for a dinner, bed and breakfast deal as it represents good value and cuts through the normal deal where breakfast is extra. The only let down is that the service in the restaurant was casual (even though the prices were not) meaning that if we had not been on an evening meal deal we would have begrudged the prices. Overall the hotel is perfectly placed in close proximity to everything Harrogate has to offer. I recommend.

I feel very picky but ..... I loved the Hotel and the location. Went at a busy time parked on the street which was fine free after 6 on sat and all day sun cost a few pounds for the Mon. Staff lovely had a grat cocktail well made in very comfortable relaxed bar area. When we arrived we checked in very quick the lady then took us to our room which she explained had just been decorated it was called Bodega( after the lift it was around 6 stairs quite a stuggle). Unfortunately we were 2 female friends who over pack so being also very picky we both thought the room very small we felt quite cramped during our 2 night stay which we paid around £132 a night. Our double wooden bedstead had very sharp corners so we both have bruises in our legs, there was no voile or blind on the window which looked into a pub so every time we needed to change we had to pull the black out curtain. There wasn't a plug near enough to a mirror to blow dry our hair I would have put LCD T.V. on wall and put a mirror at dressing table . The furniture and fittings were very nice the bathroom fittings were lovey, great toiletries and superb tea making facilities. Breakfast was around £13 and it was lovely great choice and super efficient service. Excellent for shops, Betty's Tearoom across the road and choice of restaurants in Harrogate is fantastic.Great bars directly behind hotel on James Street. I will stay again just not in that room. We just love Harrogate.
