“nice hotel, shame about the lack of air conditioning”
Reviewed 15 February 2011

This is a nice hotel in a great location, the car park is free which is great since the hotel is in the middle of Harrogate. We have stayed at this hotel on a number of occasions.

The rooms were standard HDV however i have to say that my husband and i happened to visit during a heat wave - the rooms do not have air conditioning only large noisy fans - we were unable to sleep because of this however the hotel is very old and i would imagine that adding air conditioning would be very expensive.

Nice bathrooms with lovely toiletries.

We ate at the Bistro for dinner and breakfast, at dinner food was served cold - we received no apology. At breakfast our orders took over an hour to be served - we did receive an apology however no money taken from our bill.

Once we returned home we received a mini-bar bill for items which we had not used, however after a telephone call to the hotel my credit card was credited for the money which had been deducted.

Was taken here for my birthday and first impressions of the hotel was great. Lovely to look at as set in a row of Georgian houses and once you enter a great atmosphere with a buzz in the bar. The room was fairly small and absolutely freezing. It did have a portable heater in which I had to leave on for the two nights we were there which was not ideal and thought a bit strange considering the amount they charged. Facilities in the room were good, comfortable but not very spacious. The bar and restaurant were great with lots of the locals coming in and obviously a popular place which really added to it.
Location was fab and could easily walk to everywhere in town, loads of little bars just behind the hotel and is a great place to go for the weekend.
If going to Harrogate definitely recomment a visit to the baths!

Stayed 2 nights in the Freixenet room on the 2nd floor overloooking the front of the hotel. Check in was fine - parking is a pain if the spaces in front of the hotel are booked. If they aren't you need to get the receptionist to allow you access to a bay - parking is an extra £5 per night

Hotel is easy to find and super convenient for exploring teh centre of Harrogate. The building is impressive and attractive. First impressions when entering is that the reception areas need a clean. There is a lot of wood and glass and these areas (including the bar area) are heavily used - but there are finger marks and smears all over the place.

The room was very spacious with a very large bedroom, huge shower (rainfall) and a free standing bath. Plenty of storage and wardrobe space for a short stay. Mini bar prices very reasonable compared to most hotels. Small TV (old fashioned - not a plasma or flat screen) but it did have a cd player too (plus a free cd of classical music which you could keep)

Our deal included breaksfast on both mornings - this was a highlight. The bistro is an elegant area with superb service and ambience - the food definitely lived up to expectations.

I would stay again but they do need to address the public areas before it starts to loook shabby.

We had booked the hotel from New Years Day for 2 nights, however our New Years Eve plans changed and decided to try and book an extra night in the Hotel on NYE. Unfortunately for us the hotel booking system was down so nothing could be confirmed to us either way for a couple of days, eventually though we manged to get a room which was different to the original room booked, (we were just pleased we could reside in the same room for the full 3 nights). On arrival we were upgraded to the Robert Mondavi room, a room we have stayed in before, know, and love. We declined the opportunity to participate in the Hotels NYE dinner dance and booked in to Van Zellers Restaurant instead (6 course tasting menu @ £50 per head - a great investment!), Returned to HDV just before midnight and joined in the hotels festivities. Yes, we had to pay for parking, but it's right outside the hotel and only £5 per day (how many town centre car parks would charge such a small fee?). The hotel staff were taken out for their Christmas treat on 2nd Jan which meant relief staff from sister hotels in Leeds and York decamping to Harrogate for the evening, which we were warned about via a note from the Management left in our hotel room. The relief staff did their upmost to maintain Harrogates high standards, there were a few dishes delivered to the wrong tables, and our final bill was incorrect but in all cases these were easily rectified. We have visted fantastic hotels across the world including the Banyan Tree chain which we also love, however New Year for us wouldn't be the same without a stay at HDV Harrogate. Try it you might just love it as much as we do!

My husband i spent our wedding night in a loft suite at the hotel Du Vin on Dec 29th 2005 (we also booked up most of the hotel with our wedding guests back then) - so for our 5th year anniversary we decided to return for a 2 night stay.
We booked on the phone as we were unsure which category of room we stayed in last time and wanted to try book the same one as before - we explained what we had stayed in and why we were returning however, The person on the phone got this completely wrong and booked us into a studio not a loft suite - so this was our 1st disappointment when we arrived - but never mind they gave us a nice studio room with a huge terrace.
We went straight out after leaving our stuff in the room, when we returned it was late - we went straight to bed and thats when we noticed that the wall behind the bed was extremely dusty - i have no idea why - maybe because this wall is purple and painted with some sort of paint effect it seemed to attract the dust - you could literally write your name in it...but it was too late to do anything about it so we pulled the bed away from the wall and went to sleep - sneezing! Next morning we had ordered breakfast to be delivered - it started out 20 mins late and then when it did arrive to pastries were inedible - the muesli was fine as was the juice, so as we were leaving for the day i just asked to front desk to make sure the room was cleaned properly and I told then i expected breakfast to be taken off the bill - which they agreed to and did.
The rest of our stay was fine - no mention of our 5 year anniversary -which i found strange (maybe thats because I'm used to US hotels who always make sure anything you are celebrating gets acknowledged) - and they did knock off the car parking charge (which frankly for the price you pay at Du Vin should not be there at all) for our problems with breakfast.
Generally we were disappointed - they were excellent 5 years ago and as we were leaving i noticed that all their "awards" seemed to be dated 2004 - 2006 - when they were a new hotel - I don't think we'll go back which is a shame as we do spend at least a few nights in Harrogate every year (as its where I'm from and where we met), but there are plenty of other places to try and i think we will.

Stayed here on New Year's day as part of a deal with meals, I have never stayed at a hotel du vin before, the location of this one was excellent and easy to find in Harrogate. Parking was outside the hotel so very easy, lovely room, fantastic food, great staff, my boyfriend commented on lack of flat screen somewhat dated tv, aside from that I totally loved it, wished we had both stayed another night, recommended lots.

Stayed for one night between Christmas and New Year with my partner in the Kendall.
The room was fine, but no sparkle or wow factor. It was a bit shabby and looked like it needed a little TLC.
We did not eat in the restaurant or take breakfast so can't comment on the food. There are so many places to eat in Harrogate it is difficult to chose one.
The HDV is situated in an excellent position for visiting the attractions or the shops. Was surprised to be charged for car parking. We got a good deal on the stay, but definitely would not pay the full price!
