Yes there is bettys up the road but if you have been you will know that most days you simply dont want all that fuss and standing around to get the best life can offer ! “The ONLY true coffee bar in The North of England”
Reviewed 10 January 2014

I've worked for Coffee shops and restaurants for 15 years and I am obsessed the stuff. We moved up from London 8 months ago and this is by far the best the coffee shop I have found in and out of London since we have been here. Little guys like this need your support so don't go to Starbucks go here you will not regret it, amazing, rich, smooth coffee whipped up by true professional.

“Fifty Shades of Awesome”
Reviewed 7 January 2014

In the last two and a half years coffee has gone from being something rare, mundane and functional in my life to a fully-fledged interest. The two simple reasons for this are the discovery of independent coffee shops; and the very kind recommendations of those who work in them of further places to visit.

It was by this process that I was made aware of Hoxton North; and having gained a reasonable amount of experience of Independents; I was fascinated to see how they would distinguish themselves from the crowd. I only had to put in minimal effort to figure that out because the characteristics of this shop stand out in my mind like a wonderful array of colours, each one beautiful and working in harmony with the rest.

The first aspect that attracted my attention was the interior - for my money it oozes class. Coffee shops are a place I like to go to relax, as well as have a coffee; and everything from floor to ceiling said 'relaxation' to me. Furthermore, the establishment has a wonderful little snug, which left me feeling as though I was in my own little bubble - I thoroughly recommend that visitors try it out if at all possible.

As for the drinks selection; the emphasis seems very much on quality rather than quantity - something which is very much in agreement with my philosophy on life. The selection is narrower than most other independents I have visited, but the variety of ways you can order them (V60 Pourover/Aeropress/Chemex , etc) gave me a feeling that those who chose them want me to experience every single one of their coffees produced to the absolute limits of what is possible. The selection of cakes is likewise narrow but once again the quality factor is written all over and right through them.

Finally, to put the cherry on top of the icing on the cake; the staff make their establishment. The enthusiasm for their customers feels very warm to me indeed. Furthermore, that enthusiasm is maintained when it comes to talking about and making their drinks. That is the main reason why visiting independent coffee shops has become an active interest of mine; and. to that end the staff at Hoxton North are a credit to their profession - I find their passion for coffee highly engaging; and the fact that they clearly have the ability to back it up makes my every drink there an experience and my every visit a joy.

There are many more shades to the vibrant colours that make up Hoxton North, but I can sum them all up quite eloquently - Fifty Shades of Awesome.

“Never visit a chain coffee shop again!”
Reviewed 2 January 2014

This is how all coffee shops should be run. A wonderful welcome, knowledgable staff and 'real' coffee! Staff at Weetons overlooking the Stray should take note. This is my new coffee stop. Coffee shops of such a high standard as this deserve our support. Long may you serve Harrogate with quality coffee!
