Reviewed 16 April 2012

We was due to stay with another couple at April House when due to unforseen family circumstances we had to cancel at very short notice. we explained the circumstances to Ruth who was understanding and provided us with a solution that was agreeable to all.

This to me shows what true, genuine and friendly people that David and Ruth are and which makes the April House the special place it is, we will definately be back

David & Ruth are extrememly friendly, I have stayed here a few times and have never been disappointed. The atmosphere overall is cosy and welcoming, parking is restricted but people can park outside on a very quiet road and David will give you a pass which isn't unusual for anywhere in Harrogate.

The rooms are on the small side but have everything you need and the quality of the bedding and furniture, bed etc. is top quality.

Excellent location within walking distance to the town centre and the international centre.

After a really good nights sleep one is welcomed to a massive breakfast, there is a lovely choice of starters followed by an english breakfast or will willingly cater for any special diets etc.

Can recommend this b&b without any hesitation.

David

Thank-you for taking the time to post what is on the whole a very complimentary review. However, I have to disagree about the rooms being on the small side. We currently let three en-suite double rooms - one with a standard size double bed, one with a king size and one with a super king size. None of these rooms are on the small side and the two rooms with the larger beds I would describe as spacious - these can be seen on our website.

The room was spacious and very nicely decorated. En suite was tastefully designed with large shower. Fresh clean towels every day and the room was cleaned each day too. There was everything you need at hand.
The B&B was situated in a lovely quiet area but very near to the town centre. We found David and Ruth very friendly and helpful.
Breakfast was out of this world. Fresh orange juice and a lovely fresh fruit salad. Also various yogurts and cereals to chose from. The full english was freshly cooked to perfection. Plenty of choice off the menu.
It was a wonderful break for a couple of days. We left feeling pampered and refreshed. We will certainly be returning there in the future and can recommend this place to anyone.

Thank-you for taking the time to write a review and such a complimentary one! April House is a very small B&B so we are unable to generate the same number of reviews that much larger establishments can which has a detrimental effect on our ranking. At the time of writing, we have 101 reviews, 89 excellent, 11 very good and 1 average, yet we are only ranked 20th!
Anyway we shall continue to provide bed and breakfast accommodation of the highest standard and hope to attract more reviews which we hope will improve our ranking.

We always pick our B&Bs from The Little Green Book; it's never let us down yet! But April House proved to be a fantastic find. Two nights in Harrogate celebrating my 70th birthday were made all the more memorable by the very positive contribution of David and Ruth. It's not many B&Bs which present you with a chocolate birthday cake with your birthday breakfast! And that was after the perfectly cooked 'full English'. I can't praise April House enough - in all respects. Thank you!

Room Tip: Only experienced the room over the dining room - newly furbished - excellent!

Like your granny's house but on speed
I stayed in the large bay windowed bedroom, the decor is crazy, flowers everywhere but it was just great, it made such a change from modern minimalist hotels. Ive never seen a cleaner home, so many ornaments and so little dust, amazing. Tiny wee shower cubicle, I like a decent bathroom but this room was so cute that wouldn't put me off. Go on you know you want to.....

Thank-you for your review. You might be pleased to know (and then again you might not), that the bedroom you stayed in has been redecorated (gone are the ceiling flowers!) and a lovely en-suite with large shower installed to replace the rather small and dated one. We have also redecorated another of our large bedrooms and replaced the old en-suite with a large shower. We do hope you visit again and see for yourself the improvements we have made.

We've stayed at April House twice now and enjoyed each visit. The last time we were there was October 2011 and we were lucky enough to stay in the prettiest room ever which was above the dining room. It was so comfortable you didn't want to leave it to go out and explore the area. David and Ruth are lovely hosts who really want you to enjoy your stay with them and are happy to help and advise with anything you need. Parking is free of charge with the permit system and right outside the front door - so convenient. Our luggage was taken up for us while we were playing with their lovely dog which is kept out of the 'hotel' side of the property unless you insist on meeting it which we did!! Breakfast is whatever you want. It's served quickly and cooked to order although it does finish early at 9am. We mis-heard and thought breakfast was till 10am on the Sunday and arrived in the dining room at 9.25. Despite this mistake on our part we were still treated to a lovely cooked breakfast. We felt quite ashamed of ourselves as David was clearing up the dining room by the time we came down for breakfast but were pleased to 'tuck in'.
Our beautiful bedroom was situated on the property's corner with lovely leafy views to both sides. The bed is Kingsized and very comfortable and the room has a light airy feel to it with 2 lovely plush armchairs and plenty of space for clothes and travel accessories. This is definitely not a Chain Hotel and if you want a hotel with personal service and a traditional feel at reasonable cost in Harrogate you should look no further. This is well worth a visit.

Room Tip: The room we had was above the dining room. Can't remember if it's room 2 or 3
