“£2 every time you want to leave the car park”
Reviewed 27 June 2012

I normally stay at the Old Swan (full on this visit) so was pleasantly surprised to find that this hotel has been refurbished since my last visit. Yes it's a fairly 'textbook' boutique'd look that's been heavily applied but the staff are friendly and the food in the fat badger restaurant is actually quite good. However, all this pleasant feeling they've clearly spent a lot of money engineering immediately evaporates when you, as a paying resident, have to spend £2 every time you wish to leave the car park. This is a silly form of penny pinching which I suspect is costing them a lot in terms of ill feeling.

My girlfriend and I went to Harrogate for a couple of days to celebrate two years together, upon arrival we had to wait a while at the check in desk and when we eventually got to our room we weren't at all impressed - it was tiny, has a beautiful view of a brick wall and fire escape and a not too good bathroom - moreover when we sat on the bed, it was the most rickety thing with the headboard not attached and left to rattle around. We felt very short changed considering this is a 4-star establishment and complained at the front desk - the man there sorted it out very quickly with no fuss and soon we were in a new room at the front of the building.

This room was much larger, brighter and had a better bathroom and felt much more like what we'd paid for. Our meal that evening in the hotel restaurant was very tasty indeed and was befitting of it's 2AA rosette status. The hotel itself was nicely decorated (apart from the upstairs hallways) and good looking from the outside too. Parking at the rear was also plentiful and cheap.

We enjoyed our stay in Harrogate but would have been very disappointed if weren't able to change rooms and found it baffling that the same price could be charged for two starkly different offerings. All in all, I feel the hotel is perhaps more 3-star than 4 (though I haven't seen the premier rooms, which may be better).

Room Tip: Ask explicitly for a room at the front of the hotel - and make sure they guarantee it when you book.

We stayed here for one night in May and found it very enjoyable. The room was on the smaller side but the decor was nice. Perfect location right in the centre of Harrogate. Car parking was plentiful and not too expensive. We had a meal at the restaurant which was a little more than we usually pay but was ok for a treat.
Only complaint would be that the wifi didn't work!

We stayed at the White Hart Hotel on the jubilee weekend. We booked it only days before and got a great deal on a double room. The room its self was lovely and came with an enormous en suite. We spent most of the afternoon in the hotels bar called the fat badger which was very reasonably priced and had a great atmosphere. The bed was very comfortable and we both slept very well.

Hotel its self was very well positioned in the centre of Harrogate and was only a very very short walk from other bars and restaurants.

Would recommend to anyone!!!

Went with family for Sunday lunch. The restaurant was busy and the service was a little slow at first as there appeared to be a shortage of staff.
The food was well worth the wait and was excellent value.
My only real criticism was that we had to ask for a wine list/drinks and also a childs menu. On looking round the restaurant that seemed to be the complaint generally.
Would definitely recommend for a late lunch.
A point worth noting is that they do not accept gratuities on credit cards, only in cash. I confirmed this with the front desk who siad it was a recent edict from Head Office.....strange!
