“Restaurant and bars running well...”
Reviewed 13 August 2012

Another week at The White Hart and things seem to be running well after a year in on the re-fit. Standard of food is very high, although I did experience some of the variability of portion size which has been mentioned elsewhere. Some main courses can seem a bit like a large starter, so it's worth checking. Fish 'n' chips could not be beaten. Staff young and friendly. I wonder what they are going to do with the rooms? They are perfectly serviceable but they've not changed in the 12 years or so I've been going there (in fairness there was some minor refurbishment last year, but nothing substantial). I imagine you could through a truck of money at a hotel the age of the White Hart so lets hope the tills keep ringing down below to fund a re-fit at some point!

Room Tip: The Fat Badger end of the hotel can get noisy on a summer's night when lots of people are outsid...

We booked this hotel for its location and although slightly expensive we felt the rooms looked nice online and it would be a good choice as we were attending a wedding in Harrogate that day.

On arrival we attempted to check in to our room but as we were 15 minutes early to the stated 2pm check in time we were refused a room as apparently none were available. We were however asked to pay for the room upfront even though we could not use it. This was obviously extremely frustrating as we were due to attend the wedding at 2pm and had no time to wait around for the room.

When we came back to hotel at 1am we had to wait around for the night porter to give us a key and our baggage.

The room was extremely small and hard to move around without knocking into something, the wardrobe door would not open properly as the bed was in its way. More importantly it was a very hot nights sleep even with windows fully open, there was no air conditioning.
In the morning during check out we voiced our dissapointment to the same staff member regarding the room being too hot and were told we should have asked for a fan. This would have been impossible for us ask for a fan as we didn't get given our room key until 1am.

Overall it was a disappointing stay and we will certainly not be returning.

Visited the White Hart on Saturday 5th August 2012 for a 50th Wedding Anniversary family get together for six of us. Whilst not staying myself, my family were. A couple of minor issues with my parents room which a duty manager did his best to sort (mainly a broken door lock) but a locksmith at 6pm on a Saturday evening?... Hard to get. The hotel restaurant (not the pub part) served up a wonderful meal. As an ex-hotel General Manager I'm usually quite critical but the food (especially) and service must be complimented.... Well worth a visit!

We visited at lunchtime and the food was gorgeous - just the right amount to make you feel pleasantly full but not bloated and at reasonable prices.
The waiting staff were so helpful and efficient.
The atmosphere was most relaxing with comfortable reclining chairs and the surroundings quite peaceful. Will visit again when in Harrogate and recommend to anyone who enjoys good food with a twist.
NB We only ate there and didn't stay in the rooms.

Great welcome from the cheery receptionist, the staff are all very pleasant. The hotel is very well presented outside and downstairs it oozes class, even the multi-storey car park (only two storey) is very classy in design. The hotel corridors upstairs are a little bit more dated but still very tidy and clean. I think the hotel only has single glazing because really it's an old style building, so it can be quite noisy in a room at the front of the hotel, the floorboards also creak a lot like an old house (not forgetting that harrogate is an old spa town and the buildings are very old too). The location of the hotel is brilliant, near the parklands and also near the shopping area and posh Montpellier quarter. There are plenty of restaurants and shops nearby. The restaurant in the hotel has again got polite and pleasant staff, but you can't help but feel disappointed with the food, the menu is a bit disappointing and the food quality is not the best, though it's also not the worst, the best way to describe it is average. The reason I expected it to be be better is because the hotel and restaurant oozes a much more high quality feel about it and the prices kind of match that expected high standard. The bathroom is very functional even though the colour and style is a little old fashioned. In room Wi-fi connection was pretty much useless, I had to use my mobile phone network which was much more reliable, the TV reception was also a little hazy and there wasn't much in the way of accessible plugs for recharging phones, laptop etc. The cleaning of the room was very well done, although like many hotels they are rather stingy with the shampoo and shower gel. Overall we were very glad we stayed here and the hotel was value for money.
