If I was basing this review purely on the accommodation it would easily be a 5 but our experience in the restaurant left us just a bit disappointed.

Very centrally located hotel with easy access to a secure fairly cheap car park next door (£6.20 for 24 hours). On arrival the receptionist was very pleasant and advised us we had been upgraded to a Stray Suite. There was a slight mix up with the amount she wanted to pre-authorise to our credit card but it was quickly resolved.
The suite was beautiful, exceptionally clean, spacious and with a lovely bathroom. Overall one of the nicest rooms we have stayed in. The bed was really comfortable and the room was exceptionally quiet even though it over looked the main road.
The only issues we had were in the restaurant. When we went in we immediately noticed the noise level. We were given a choice of tables and we asked if there was any quiet tables. We were shown into a very small area at the side of the restaurant where the only other occupants were a large group. They weren't too noisy but we had inadvertently ended up sitting in front of a fire exit which the smokers in this group insisted in using to gain access to smoke, not ideal.
My husband thought his meal was "OK" if nothing special, scotch egg, fish pie and cheese board. I chose queen scallops and beef bourguignon and was not so lucky. The scallops were dried up and fairly tasteless. The beef was very poor. It was tough and fatty and the sauce lacked any depth of flavour at all. I did raise this with the waiter when he collected our plates and his only response was "tough?" in a very incredulous manner.
The breakfast next morning was OK plenty of hot choices my husband particularly enjoyed the pancakes, bacon and maple syrup.
When we checked out there was an issue with our bill in that the food allowance included in our dinner bed and breakfast rate had not been deducted from our bill. There was also confusion as to how much this was, it had been £30 per person when we booked but had apparently been raised to £35 but no one had advised us.
Overall we did have a pleasant stay - loved the room. Would we stay again? Probably but we wouldn't eat in the hotel but there did appear to be wide choice of restaurant's within easy walking distance.

Stayed on Sunday night. Perfectly happy with all aspects. Everything from the Nespresso machine to the shower was gleaming. So much so I think we must have been in a sparkling new room but on reflection it was just part of the overall pride in a magnificent small hotel.
We will stay here again if we make it back to deepest Yorkshire. Our dog was made to feel very welcome and we would love to stay again.

This is our second time here. Good hotel, reasonably priced with well equipped and clean rooms. The bar downstairs is great with well stocked bar. Breakfast was exceptional. Hotel is on a main street in the town and so easy to get round. Cheap car park right next to hotel reception entrance.

Made a special day SPECTACULAR.
Thank you especially to Laura who I spoke to on the morning of our visit (just to make sure all was ok with specific table etc.) and Peter (who took our orders and served us) who went above and beyond to make my family's day even more special.
Thank you, Thank you and Thank you again.... Very special place and (although food wasn't high on our list that day) the food was amazing as usual.

Well firstly the room they first put us in was facing a solid wall after all the hype online about views over the park. So happy to accept that we'd booked a basic room I let this go. However after getting to dinner Amy and I order our starters to be told three times each selection was not available. Would have been nice to have been told. Then when the meal came Amys steak was shocking. Full of veins and fat and my duck had more fat on it that a baby seal. Plus it took the jaws of a woolly mammoth to chew. So after complaining they upgraded our room to a suite with a park view and stated a bottle bubbly would be in our room to compensate. All good I though. Complaint handled perfectly but after a lovely night out Amy and I get back to the room and no bloody bubbly. Hence the frank and honest appraisal. Lovely hotel but a way to go!

Decor lovely, drinks lovely but that's about it.
