Found the hotel easily, parked in the carpark next to hotel which they recommended. Was told it would be £6 for 24 hours but when we left less than 24 hours later it actually cost £10. The room was cleanish, the bed was very comfortable. There was some noise from the main road outside but it didn't stop me sleeping. The bedside light which is one of them bendy lights was damaged, surprising because this hotel has recently been refurbished. The light drooped and sat on my pillow very annoying. The bedding was clean but there seemed to be stains on duvet that hadn't come out in the wash.

We shall go back (let's say that for starters) but it was a hotel of extremes.
First day - just what one would want, and better than I expected. Then it went down hill.
We should have realised when the warning sign over a big tear in the carpet on the first floor was moved to the side.
Going into the room that evening the beds were unmade, the night porter tut-tutted, made a detailed note for the manager, and that was that.
We had been expected to cope with one bath towel between the two of us, but when it was brought to the attention of the receptionist he delivered a second set of towels. The cleaners that night delivered two sets of towels, and left the used ones (no complaint there), but left the beds in unmade state.
Breakfast was fine (unlimited quantity, but cooked food was limited to sausages, tomatoes, bacon, beans and scrambled egg a la leatherjacket) though it would have been great to have had unchipped plates!
Having said all that what should one expect for the money? Welshweekenders summed it up: "Not the Ritz, granted, but clean, good location, good value meals and staff whom I found to be really helpful." And that is why I shall be going back.

Room Tip: Don't expect the world and then you won't be disappointed.

Reading the previous reviews - what on earth do people expect for the price? Not the Ritz, granted, but clean, good location, good value meals and staff whom I found to be really helpful. Handy bar, comfy and friendly. Matt, the manager, went out of his way to make my niece and I feel at home. (Thanks for getting me the goats' milk!) This Travel Lodge is exactly what's needed for a good, affordable break. Brilliant location for the shops, cathedral etc. if you want hair dryers, fancy toiletries etc., you have to pay for them and this is made very clear on their website. Breakfast is fantastic value and sets you up for the day. Only downside to our two-night stay was the rowdy, inconsiderate s Walian group who were blissfully unaware of the noise and mess they created - or just didn't care! When they left, the staff cleared up quickly and without fuss. Top marks Matt and co!

Stayed here recently.
The car park is a public multi storey, effectively next door.
You have to know that you need to park on the 1st floor in a certain area to have any hope of finding your way back to the hotel. I was accompanying a less than able bodied person who I was unable to drop outside the hotel because it is fenced off.
He had to walk from the car park, which would not be a problem for anyone who can walk any distance normally. The walk involves parking on the 1st floor, and then walking to the lift, and ascending down to the ground floor of the shopping centre. Then crossing a tiled (shiny and slippery) mezzanine floor to the outside of the building. Walking down a slope on the outside of the building and then along the pavement to the hotel. This was excruciatingly painful for him.
Obviously he could not carry anything as he uses crutches. I had to return to the car to collect the luggage etc a total of 4 times. It was late at night, and I was not comfortable being out on the street alone.
On our 2nd night there, someone was murdered in a house across the road!
The rooms are tiny - in fact the corridor is wider than the room!! The new "look" is minimal - just the bed and one uncomfortable chair. Very little room to move around the room. The bathroom is also very small - the door when opened only just misses hitting the shower cubicle.
PLEASE DO NOT STAY HERE if you are at all limited in your mobility or are elderly or infirm. I also would not recommend this hotel to women travelling alone.

Room Tip: Choose another hotel !!

Thank you for your feedback J C. The nearest parking is available at the Gloucester Quays Designer Outlet multi storey car park. We try to assist our customers by ensuring that all the information regarding location and directions to the car park can be found under the ‘parking & facilities’ tab on our website. We are sorry to learn that you were unhappy with the room that you were allocated, we want our customers to have a comfortable stay with us and it is regrettable you found the room to be small and inconvenient on this occasion.

A fair nights stay, but an endless string of extras for Wi-Fi booking, credit card charges has turned me off. Why not just charge a fair price and offer the services that people expect. £ 5 for Wi-Fi access is too much

We are really sorry to learn that you were unhappy with the extras that we offer Finbar4. Our Wi-Fi service is offered through one of our partners called Arqiva. We can confirm that we charge a transaction fee if you book using a credit card. This fee is a valid reflection of the actual costs incurred by Travelodge. For debit card payments there is no charge applied to these types of transactions.
