“Nice weekend”
Reviewed 2 June 2014

I have got to say, having used Travelodge in the past and then again after a fews years of not, they have improved. I get just as good a service then I do from the big guys (upmarket) The staff are happy and look as if they like working for travelodge.

Stayed here bank holiday weekend with my boyfriend. Was our base so we could explore the cotswolds and bath.

Clean, quiet and friendly staff. Perfect location.

Staff went out of their way to find places to eat for us or to get us extra towels. Really impressed.

Stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. We were a party of 4 mature but slightly excitable ladies . Our every request was dealt with . ALL the staff were very very friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was good. The rooms were lovely and clean. Only one very small criticism . There is only one hard plastic chair in the rooms where 2 slightly more comfortable ones would be better. But basically at the end of the day the rooms are only for sleeping in. We would absolutely use this hotel again. The location was very good and close to the city centre and plenty of eating places near by. Loads of shops very close to hand too. Good convenient parking in the multi story attached.

Firstly, English speaking staff were polite, friendly and helpful. Nothing too much trouble. We stayed in London Docklands and foreign speaking staff are none of the above so made a great difference. We are definitely staying here again.

Parking:
The multi-storey is behind the hotel and easy to get too. Travelodge parking is section A on level 1. Parking prices are reasonable. Take a ticket and get it validated at reception. Each time you drive out, pay for the parking. On return, get another ticket etc.

From 3pm Wednesday to morning on Friday we paid £6. Then from Friday evening to Saturday morning another £6.

Hotel room and bathroom:
Very clean. Free from limescale around taps and grubby grouting and that makes you feel clean. Tea and coffee available and if you need more milk just ask at reception. Walls clean and bedding pure white. TV, Open clothes hanging space. 10/10.

Bar and Restuarant.
After an evening out we popped back to the bar for a nightcap. it's quiet. Meals are served here too and seem to be very reasonable in price. Drinks too. Breakfast is £7.95 and I think each as much as you want.

Location:
Walk out of the front entrance and turn right and walk into the Designer Outlet. Shops open at 10am. A couple of mornings we nipped into Pasty Presto (opens earlier) for breakfast. Pastry and hot cuppa for £2.75. We choose take out but you can sit at the cafe's outdoor seating area. Pastries for this offer are various croissants. They are delicious!

Walk out the back of the Designer Outlet and you at at Gloucester Quays, a redevelopment with eateries: Nando, Zizzi, Pizza Express, American Diner ... Weekdays these are busy and even on a Friday with a slightly younger crowd, no one is crawling on the floor drunk. We ate at Zizzis (see separate review) and on the last night simply bought nibbles at Tesco Express in town and sat by the marina back of the docks...peaceful, relaxing, and a warm May evening, people and dogs heading back to their boats ... Walk around the converted warehouses - we found three hidden gems, restaurants of various cuisine and a decent price and we shall try when we return.

Zizzi:
We ate Calzone costed between £11 to £12 and the dough was delicious. Mine was chicken & spinach and what a let down... five pieces of chicken the size of two fingernails. Ray had meat balls and had four small meatballs. For this I say it wasn't worth it. Lots of the cheap food stuff though and limited with the more expensive. So really we are being charged for what we are not having despite advertised as chicken... meatballs.

Hotel to town:
From the hotel and quays it is a 10 min walk. The prettiest being through the Designer Outlet then the Quays to town. It's quiet with lots of places to shop and eat. We ate at Greys Cafe by the New Inn, and even popped into a Wetherspoon although I do recommend the best spot being the patio out back which is so lovely with decking, shrubs, flowers - you'd think you were in a different pub. Inside is the normal dark, dank paint work with 1970's worn carpet.

Blossom (Chinese) Restaurant:
Two mins from the hotel. We paid about £17 for an eat as much as you like and you order from a menu. Clean, well thought out interior. We arrived at 7pm and but half seven on a Thursday it was busy. We noticed this about all restaurants in Gloucester - busy of a weekday evening.

Further Afield (day trips):
We travelled on to Weston Super Mare and Cheddar Gorge. Looking at tourist info there is lots of stuff for kids in the surrounding areas too.

We had a wonderful time and recommend the area, hotel and surrounding areas.

Room Tip: We come from a village where it is silent but we stayed on the side where there is a road and we sti...

I stayed in a Travelodge last year for the first time and it was an awful experience. It was with bated breath that I booked in at Gloucester having read good reviews.
Luckily this hotel was excellent - I was very pleased. Beds super comfy and I slept like a log!
Everything in the room was clean and in new condition. It had everything that you needed.
We had breakfast which was excellent - lot's of choice - full english, cereals, pastries, toast etc.
Friendly staff and a 24 hour bar and 24 hour food available.
Right next the the Quays - perfect for a night out or a stopover after shopping.
I would recommend.

Room Tip: No tips - we had a room overlooking the road but it was not noisy.

A bit of a mixed stay, fairly clean and upgrade is better but still missing a few touches like a tv that is tuned correctly with the channels advertised and a comfy chair rather than damaged plastic. If i report faults and give all day to fix them its a good idea for the faults to be fixed 10 hours later surely without requiring a complaint. Staff tried hard but cant do or be everywhere. You get what you pay for in this world. Lets hope next time its a bit more fun.

It isn't glamorous but it is good value. The hardest part was finding the parking which is actually the shopping outlets parking, however by raking your card to hotel reception the cost us considerably reduce to £2 for overnight parking. The breakfast was of a better standard than some other travelogues. Next time I would arrive earlier to take advantage of the shopping centre, it closes at 8pm

Room Tip: Ask for an even numbered room they are at the back of the hotel nit overlooking the main rise, altho...
