“If you need a stop over on the M5 look no further!”
Reviewed 1 September 2012

Last minute we decided to drive down Friday night rather than Sarurday morning

Easy to find off the M5 - a warm late evening welcome from Anton on reception, a quick drink then so to bed !

Pillow menu a welcome addition since I last stayed at this chain - a very good breakfast buffet included in the very fair price

Overall - very impressed - and we got to our destination a day early at modest cost

Very helpful and friendly staff in a good location if you've got a car. The rooms are ok but not spotless, a bit dated and poorly lit. The internet is ridiculously expensive at 60 GBP per week and a further 7 for an i-pad per day. The Bumblebee next door serves very good pub food in a family atmosphere.

Not very good stay. My wife had an accident on uneven badly laid paving stones outside the hotel. Attitude of hotel was terrible they just did not care. Dirty stained pillows on the bed and dirty shower curtains. Breakfast service was awful. No hot food as advertised , huge queues and staff who did not care in the slightest. Breakfast advertised until 10 30 but was all cleared away by 09 50 as they had run out of everything. Complained but no one cared. Agree with other review posted for the 18 August we stayed on the 16/17 August and it was just the same. I recommend a really good bed ad breakfast place on the Bristol Road which is where we will stay net time. Bye the way it's also very noisy being next to a major main road!

Look. It's a Holiday Inn Express. It does exactly what it says on the tin - no frills, clean and comfortable, value for money. Easy access from the M5 motorway, parking is very British, i.e. "snug" and right next door to the Bumblebee pub. The rooms were clean and in good condition, the air conditioning is easy to operate - you open the window.

The free breakfast was reasonable, and the pub next door is literally across the parking lot from the hotel. The food there was UK Gastropub style but actually not that bad, and again, good value.

Gloucester, Cheltenham, the Cotswolds, South Wales and the Malvern Hills were all very accessible from this location. Romantic - no, functional - yes. If you are a value driven traveller, this is the place for you.

Room Tip: Overlooking the parking lot (North Side) is much quieter than overloking the nearby A38 road.

I have stayed at this hotel for one night each month for the last few months whilst on business in Gloucester. Its a good location and near the major roads and not far out of Gloucester.

The hotel has been consistent on each occasion, the bedrooms clean and spacious and everything works. The staff are friendly but the bar is not always staffed so you have to give them a nudge on reception which is a few paces away. Its much like many budget chain hotels at this level, you get what you pay for, breakfast is basic but enough, as long as you like sausages and scrambled eggs for the hot food. There is no evening meals, but you can order and eat several local take aways which will deliver to the hotel.

The Bumble Bee pub right next door is nice, food is excellent and they have real ales and a beer garden.

If you live in the countryside normally then ask for a room facing the car parks as the back rooms are a little noisy from the traffic on the busy road nearby. If you are use to that anyway at home then it will not bother you.

Room Tip: car park side rooms are quieter.

I stayed here for a couple of nights. Room was basic no power points by the bed so I had to charge my phone at the desk. The wardrobe was open with no doors or sides. The room had a few stains on the carpet. The bed was comfy. The staff in the hotel were friendly and nice.

The breakfast had a big selection of pastries and cereals, the cooked breakfast only had sauages and scrambled eggs.

The pub joint by the carpark was nice the meals were cheap and a good menu.

I was very disappointed by this Hotel, its location was good as near the motorway. Hotel room was clean and comfortable but was woken up by the maid knocking on our door early in the morning wanting to clean the room! She kept knocking until I answered the door which by then meant I had woken up. We then went for breakfast and found there was no hot food, there were 2 cold sausages and mashed up hash browns only, when we asked for eggs, more sausages, etc we were told there were none! A few sausages were brought out after half hour and then uncooked hash browns. The staff attitude was diabolical, they just kept saying 'its in the oven' and appeared very arrogant towards us. I was not impressed as had no hot breakfast. Everyone was disappointed in the dining room and I was told by the other people that all weekend there had been no breakfast provided. If they are not going to provide breakfast then they should not charge for it! I would not return to this hotel again.
