“Hidden gem! ”
Reviewed 15 July 2014 via mobile

This unassuming little restaurant is a hidden gem in Gloucester! Small and unpretentious from the outside, most people would walk straight past without thinking twice... DONT!

You would be a fool not to give this place a go!

The owners are friendly and clearly care so much about their work. Getting up ridiculously early to start barbecuing the meat.

We normally have the banquet meal, which allows you to try a bit of everything. The starter of BBQ chicken with plantain and salsa is amazing. you don't need a knife, just touch the chicken with a spoon and the meat falls off the bone, it's so tender! HUGE portion sizes.

For the main we have a selection of curries, including goat, all at varying spice levels to suit everyone. These again are top notch! You can't fault it!

Even if the food wasn't good, in fact even if the food was inedible, I'd still keep going back just to sit and chat with the owners. Charlie & Wanja are the friendliest couple you could ever wish to meet. They treat all their guests as if they've been friends for years.

I wish this restaurant all the success, they deserve it.

Thank Chelsea G

“Wow... what an Experience”
Reviewed 14 July 2014 via mobile

This place is truly a must try if you're in the area, or if you not then come anyway.

I had the pleasure of being greated by Charles and already knew we were in for a great night.

The table is your for the night, so don't ever feel rushed.
It is also BYOB so also feel free to bring what you want, although they do a few fruit juices.

Our meals were sublime. Charles spoke about all the different flavours we would be tasting and the history of the dishes.

We had a slow cooled chicken for starters and a selection of curries for mains, all varying in spice and flavour and amazingly each one was better that the last.

Looking so forward to going back ....if only I can get a table when its not fully booked.

“Awesome service”
Reviewed 9 July 2014 via mobile

Visited on a Thursday night so it was very quiet. I had booked and ordered that morning as they like to take the food choice on the phone. Bring your own alcohol and cash only. Some fruit juices and water there. Not sure if you could bring your own coke and such.

When we got there the main guy, Charlie was so welcoming and happy he made you feel right at ease straight away and I'm not one for chatting!
He was the only one working the whole restaurant it's that intimate! We were also the only ones there for the first half our so we had one to one service!
Charlie was the host, waiter, cook and buss boy and he did very well at all of them!
When the food arrived he explained all of it and I was surprised that my favourite was the Plantain!
We had the African Banquet and the starters were definately the highlight. So many different and tasty things to eat!
The meat in the mains was a bit dry but the sauces were yummy.
The chilli sauce supplied is home made too and very hot and tasty. We finished the first pot within about two minutes so he bought a big one out. He should sell it!

It also appears to have been redecorated and doesn't match the pictures on the website. Looks a lot nicer now. Very plain and simple but welcoming.

Good friendly service. Personal dislikes(allergies) cheerfully catered for! I have a chilli allergy and they went out of their way to give me tasty non chilli food!! Have been several times and have not been dissappionted. They tend to be very busy so really have to book to be assured of a table.

“What treat!”
Reviewed 1 July 2014 via mobile

We did not know where to eat in Gloucester, but thanks to TripAdvisor we gave this wonderful place a go. We tried a platter if food which was a delight. Booking in advance is preferred as meals are slowly cooked for 4 hours. BYO.
