“What a surprise!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2014

We wanted a meal close to Hartpury College as we were there for the weekend. The White Hart looked like a traditional village pub so we booked! What a surprise we had to find the evening menu was Nepalese/Gurkha food! But having got over our initial surprise were delighted to find it was delicious and was served by friendly attentative staff despite it being an incredibly busy Saturday evening! Well done to the owners for giving the traditional British pub a shake up!!

“Great good British pub food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 April 2014 via mobile

Stopped here for Sunday lunch we hadn't booked but it was all ok wasn't busy so service was quick.
I was apprehensive as there wasn't many people there!
But I needn't off been the food was very good piping hot excellently cooked veg (not over done) and plenty of it the traditional Sunday roast had plenty of good quality meat.
The vegetarian lasagna was the best I've had for a long time eating out !!
Well done we will be back.

“Nepalese delight”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 March 2014

Now called The White Hart Inn, Village Inn & Eating House at Ledbury Road, Maisemore, Gloucester. GL2 8HY. If you are familiar with Indian Restaurants the menu at the White Hart wont trouble you what is different to many is the fact that this Restaurant is managed and staffed by Gurkha ex service men. Lets start with the food, must state up front that I'm a fan of Indian food and this menu although not vast was particularly fresh and tasty. The portions weren't to large but as always we ordered far more than we could comfortably eat. Doggy Bags were provided for the remains of our feast. I would have willingly eaten almost anything on the menu but plumped eventually for the Tandoori Mixed Grill, it was wonderful as were the other two mains and various side dishes. The Naan's were a revelation...
The staff were warm, friendly and polite and everything you would expect from such a generous happy people.
It was our first visit but it certainly wont be our last. Highly recommended.

“A Nepalese Experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 December 2013

Visited this restaurant on a Tuesday evening as part of a party of eight, having booked a couple of weeks beforehand. It's a black and white building situated on the right-hand side virtually as soon as you enter Maisemore.

On arrival, my husband and I were warmly greeted by both members of staff behind the bar, asked if we wanted drinks immediately or wanted to wait until the arrival of our friends and then shown to our table. We were surprised that there were already several tables occupied with it being so early in the week but that was obviously an omen for things to come.

We were immediately given complimentary poppadoms to start with whilst waiting for our starters, along with three of the usual accompaniments.

For starters there was a very good selection of choices. The majority of us went for Aludum, a potato dish which is popular within the Gurkha Regiment, which was very nice, well presented and made a change from our usual starters because we normally opt for a meat dish.

It would be too onerous to name all that we had for our mains but, yet again, because we wanted to try Nepalese cuisine most of us opted for the Raja Rani Chicken. You are asked if you want it hot or medium, etc. This is marinated chicken tikka which is cooked with garlic, ginger genugreek leaf and a touch of chilli, yoghurt and lots of fresh coriander. It is described on the menu as a 'Very Tasty Dish'. Very Tasty Dish! That is an understatement. All that had chosen it described it as one of the most flavoursome meals they had ever eaten, it was absolutely divine and we all would thoroughly recommend it. Other members of the party chose Nepali Chicken and Sowadilo curry with the flavours yet again being fantastic. All dishes were nicely presented and looked so appetising.

None of us opted for sweets or coffee as we were rather full but, to sum up this restaurant, the atmosphere is warm, welcoming and cosy even; the food is top notch (there aren't enough adjectives to describe it) and the service from the moment we arrived, during the meal and on leaving was fantastic too - it was swift but not obtrusive. Would highly recommend this restaurant as a change from dining out in Gloucester, especially as it's not too far to travel. Will we be going again? You bet we will!
