“been twice...”
Reviewed 15 December 2011

have been here twice, once to go around gloucester the other cheltenham. for both of these you need a car. it cannot be bad if we've been twice. a good deal is £150 for a family - 2 nights b&b with 1 night evening meal - kids eat free.

the positives - staff tend to be very good and try to please; rooms clean and you can control the temperature; free exercise classes; good swimming pool; family aware; breakfast.

ok - size of room.

beware - this place is popular with coach companies, which can cause problems with check in and eating.

eaten there twice and the food was ok, included in the price. better to travel 4 minutes and eat elsewhere - out of hotel, turn right, 2nd off isand, 400 metres to the left. better food and cheaper but you may need to book. sainsbury's 5 minutes walk, if you need to stock up.

Thanks for the great reviews on this site. I found most of them totally the same as I experienced this hotel
Great points
- they do have tea & coffee facilities in the room, even though the website doesnt say it
- the breakfast was good we thought despite some reviews- there was hot breakfast, cereals, croissants etc.
- location- central. took a 45 min drive to Stratford on Avon and we were 10 mins from shops, quays etc
- there are halaal restuarants very close by

I didnt particularly like the soft bed- but for 1 night it was more than fine

My mum and I have just returned from a weekend break in Gloucester, this is the first time that wev'e stayed in a Holiday Inn, basic but as they say you pay for what you get. We usually stay at Ettington Chase in Stratford upon Avon but thought we'd have a change but I really wish we had stuck with our usual choice. The hotel reception wasn't always attended but our check in was speedy, the rooms are basic and small and I was not impressed that both the bath towels were dirty on arrival so hence were left in the bath for replacements the following day!! The rooms were like sauna's far too hot and the radiator wasn't even on so just as well there were windows to open. We made use of the leisure facilities and again I think the cleaniness needed improvement, changing rooms rather on the grubby side and the pool area looks like it needs updating. Breakfast was lovely, a good choice the only downside was the coffee, not even drinkable so I had to suffer orange juice until we went out. We made the most of our weekend and visited some lovely places and shopped till we dropped which was what we intended so no disappointment there.

Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights so that we could attend Cheltenham races. We received a really warm welcome. Our room was clean, well maintained and very comfortable. The bar area and dining room were both on two levels, the bar having two flat screen TV's. The menu in both bar and dining room were not extensive to say the least, but everything we had was very well cooked, as was the breakfast. The staff were extremely courteous and both food and drink were served quickly and efficiently. The health club was very well maintained and obviously purpose built, and included treatment rooms. The swimming pool was a reasonable size with a children's splash area and jacuzzi adjacent. There was also a sauna and steam room in this area. Hotel is perfectly positioned for touring around the Cotswolds. Cheltenham has a lovely shopping centre, and the racecourse was easy to get to without having to go through the town ~ about 25 mins. Wouldn't hesitate to stay at this hotel again, especially if we could get a great deal again ~ told they are available on and off throughout the year.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights while attending the races at Cheltenham. It was extremely comfortable, clean and very well maintained. It was also very easy to get to the racecourse. There was a choice of soft or firm pillows and a lovely large flat screen tv. The only downside we felt was the evening meal (which we only had on the Friday night) It was overpriced in our opinions (£1 extra for peas with fish and chips - surely it should be included in such a dish - £11.60 not exactly cheap for fish and chips)!!! Would definitely stay here again - but probably not to eat.

We stayed for just one night on a short trip. We were upgraded to an executive room. Lovely swimming pool we used both that afternoon and first thing next morning - two bathrobes improved this experience. We ate lunch, dinner and breakfast. The breakfast is excellent and fresh with tasty local produce. Dinner was quite good (ribeye steak cooked correctly) but the menu had very little I would have liked had we been staying for any length of time. good sized flat screen tv, usual room amenities, fairly comfy bed and we slept quite well. no free wifi - when will the UK wake up and provide this?

This is a reasonably modern, well-appointed hotel about two miles from Gloucester city centre. It's hidden from view and situated off a large roundabout on a dual carriageway. Our bedroom was excellent as we had an executive-level room.

The public rooms are fine but we found a little soul-less. It's was all a bit clinical and it lacked cosiness. The dining room was akin to eating in a conservatory ( a nice one at that) but, on Saturday evening, we decided to dine over the road at the nearby Wheatstone Inn.

Breakfast (Sunday morning) was very busy and some items on the hotplate had not been replaced - no bacon for me. It was average fare and reasonable.

Would I go back by choice? On reflection - no.
