“Great stay”
Reviewed 2 February 2014

Stayed just one night, but used the pool and gym - both great facilities. Breakfast was excellent. Stayed with friends and we loved the pancake machine!! The restaurant staff were especially friendly and the food very fresh. Great hotel. Thanks!

fab hotel, ideally located for travel and sight seeing. Super staff in hotel and gym, holiday inn should be proud of their team. Gym getting a little tired but due to be refurbished. Breakfast was hot and plentiful even though it was a busy weekend. Good family room but was slightly cold until they gave us a portable heater. Would stay again for the price.

As someone has said previously. Bed too soft, roll into each other and bouncy. Noisy, we could hear people in room clearly next door as there was a connecting door. Hot and air con gave me a sore throat! Bath was odd shape - uncomfortable. Breakfast staff and food was excellent. Pool was OK but odd shape to do decent lengths. Room 17

Room Tip: Ask for room without connecting door and odd shaped bath!

Dear jackifhearts,

Thank you for taking the time to express your thoughts and concerns. We are so glad you liked the breakfast selections we offer. Please accept our sincerest apology for the experience you had with the room accommodations you received and the shape of our pool was less than satisfactory. Your feedback is very important to us as this continually helps us improve the facilities and guest services we offer to our guests. Thank you for staying and we hope you give us another chance to show you how great our hotel is.

Good location friendly staff ,rooms are a bit on the small side .Ours was on the ground floor and was quiet although the bed was a bit soft and we experienced roll together .breakfast was good with plenty of choice buffet style, my partner ordered an omelette this was excellent. Over all a nice place but a bit over priced.

We stayed here to visit someone in hospital and booked dinner bed and breakfast for a very reasonable price at the last minute. Because we had booked in a hurry we discovered we had presses the wrong button and booked a smoking room....the very last thing we would want! The receptionist was so helpful about it and upgraded to us to an executive room, advised about times to eat and booked us in to the busy restaurant.
In our haste we had we found we had failed to pack some vital items but there is a large Sainsbury's very close to the hotel so we were able to buy what we needed.
We had a quick swim in the pool which is beautiful, an excellent temperature and very clean and found the changing rooms to be the cleanest we had ever come across! Not that others are dirty but these were gleaming!
We were half dreading dinner knowing that the restaurant was full and there were some very large parties already seated when we sat down. We were offered a table away from all the hustle and bustle of the large sittings which was thoughtful and our food came up quickly, it was hot, tasty and served with a smile, many smiles.. really excellent!
All staff were attentive.caring and couldn't do enough for us and could put many staff at 5 star resorts to shame.
We are going back this coming weekend to visit the same relative and to enjoy it all again.

Room Tip: We found the mattress a bit wallaowy so are going for twin mattresses next time.

A few hiccups but was resolved before we arrived. I accidentally requested a smoking room and emailed customer service to get it changed as I have a baby. The first request was turned down by the manager, Charlotte, as the hotel was full. However, after explaining to them again about the danger of putting our baby in a smoking room, Emily, the Reservations Supervisor had kindly been able to put us in a double accessible room. Thank you Emily :)

Because of the accessible type, our room was really huge. Comfortable bed and clean. Extra railing at the bath which was handy when trying to get out as I took my bath with my daughter.

Brought my daughter to the pool, they have a separate shallow area for babies/ toddlers.

Free parking and easily accessible to other parts of the Cotswolds. Will stay again

This Holiday Inn is situated at the North-East edge of Gloucester, adjacent for the A417 and convenient for the M5, junction 11a; there is plenty of free parking on site. Our weekend stay was in January 2014, we were given a very reasonable deal which included an evening meal on the first night in addition to B & B for a standard room. Use of the fitness centre and pool was part of the deal (wish I had remembered my swimsuit).
All the rooms are situated away from the main road. The standard room was small for 2 (most frequented by solo business people, I suspect), but it was adequate for us. It was very clean and well presented, the bed was very comfortable; the air-conditioning was quiet and effective. The bathroom was similarly small, and had no heating in it as the air-conditioning had replaced both the radiator in the bedroom and the towel rail in the bathroom – result, towels that did not really dry and a floor that was freezing underfoot. Underfloor heating came to mind! Soundproofing between the rooms was good – but the door to the corridor is hopeless for keeping out any noise. The first evening there was a post-christmas Christmas party in the hotel and people returned to their rooms between 1 and 3am. They were not noisy revellers, but just normal chatting down the corridor was amplified in the room (or so my husband tells me as slept through most of it).

We were quietly impressed with the standard of the food and the speed with which it came out of the kitchen: good quality and a wide choice. The evening meal on Saturday began with pâté for my hubbie, which came in its own small Kilner jar, enough pate for 2. Although it came with only one piece of bread, our request for another was quickly attended to. Mains were escalope of turkey for the man; I had grilled fillet of trout on a bed of puy lentils and roasted vegetables, beautifully presented and with a taste to match. Sticky toffee pudding with decent ice-cream was shared between us for dessert – “naughty but nice” – and finished off the meal with coffee. A bottle of sparkling fizz washed down the food. On Sunday evening the restaurant was closed as there were so few residents, we ate in the bar area but the whole menu was open to us. My husband had an Aberdeen Angus burger; I had beef lasagne with salad and garlic ciabatta – both enjoyed. Unfortunately, one cannot avoid football on 2 huge wide screen TVs, perhaps when only the bar is open for food, the TV in the upper area could be turned off?

Breakfast was buffet style with again an excellent choice to suit all tastes. I enjoyed the various fresh fruits on offer with natural yoghurt (greek also available). There was also a limited amount of continental items on offer (which did not seem to be that popular), and a large array of hot food. Toast could be freshly made and there were pastries as well. Hot drinks were served by the staff who quickly cleared plates from the tables.
Throughout our stay, the staff could not be more helpful; from the gratis internet we received on our arrival, the fresh milk bought to our room, the duck and feather pillows also brought, to the delivery of a new key when our old one refused to work. There was a comment on a previous review about large numbers of staff who had poor English; I beg to differ. We met only indigenous English people the first day and only two the second – both spoke perfect English. We were met with courtesy and helpfulness our entire visit.
This was our first visit as a couple to a Holiday Inn and we would return – and I will remember my swimsuit next time!
