Very interesting and breathtakingly beautiful. We missed the last tour of the day, but there was a very helpful leaflet guide for a pound. Coffee shop didn't look so inviting, but it was already shut anyway at 17.00.

My husband and I love Gloucester Cathedral and have made many visits over the years. The atmosphere is calm and inspiring. A beautiful place to visit either for a concert or just to look around and have a cup of tea in the lovely tea room.

Disappointingly smaller than expected requiring only a short visit. Some good features but missed out on the Tower Tour that cannot be booked in advance. First come, first served.

This is a stunning cathedral inside and out - outside its like lace in stone, very delicate perpendicular gothic

Inside thank goodness at least some of the original norman cathedral survives in fantastic romanesque pillars and arches in the nave - massive and stunning

Everywhere you go in the building is interesting from the carvings on the seats in the choir to the tomb of william the conquerors eldest son robert and the beautiful choir screen by gilbert scott

Outstanding though are
- the cloisters with the loveliest gothic fan tracery and a truly spiritual atmospere
- the tomb of edward II and the story of the kings murder
And richard IIs attempt to have him sanctified (!)
- the gallery well worth a £2 fee so you can see the tiles/cathedral from above and the east window/angel boss ceiling close by

There's a small treasury too and little shop

We were sad that the 11.30 crypt tour never happened but this is the only criticism

The little coffee shop is also fine doing snacks and lunches and there are loos for non spiritual needs

There is no entrance fee but donations are requested and you can pay to light a candle for a loved one

This was a lovely experience. The architecture is magnificent and as you enter 'deep' into the Cathedral you experience the awe and wonder of this very special building. A 'must visit'.
