Took a boat on the canal from slimbrige to sharpness, we enjoyed the lovely surroundings and wildlife, and friendly people. A great pub at slimbrige for a good meal.

"Watching the time flow away", as Otis Redding would put it, is a must in this little town of Gloucester. Bring either gossiping friends or a moleskine: those docks are inspiring.

The paths are easily negotiable along the canal. Loads of wildlife to watch and very diverse plant life.

We took our boat the length of the canal over a few days, it's very easy to navigate being wide and deep and relatively straight with no locks. Great for a relaxing break. Facilities along the canal are OK with a few water points and sanitary stations, plenty of pubs but very few shops for groceries, stock up at Sainsburys Gloucester for the trip!

Stayed at Slimbridge, loved watching the bridge opening for the boats, it's a real hive of activity. Loved the cycle rides along the canal path although the gravel makes it a poor surface in places. Lots of different kinds of boats and of course wildlife. Nice cafes at Slimbridge and Saul Junction. Relaxing place for a holiday but also handy for the Cotswolds.
