Gloucester is a lively place with many current activities, yet is juxtaposed with amazing historical buildings and museums. The Cathedral is a must see as are so many of the sites.

If you are looking for that special piece or pieces of Pine or Oak furniture, then you really have to visit The Pine and Oak Centre near Lydbrook in the Forest of Dean.

I went there with my husband the other day to see if I could not only purchase a console table but if I could also take it away with me there and then. The answer to the above query was 'Yes' in both instances.

All the staff are impeccably polite, helpful and keen to please. Nothing is too much trouble and will even offer you a cup of tea/coffee or cold drink. How many retailers does anyone know that does that f.o.c.

What I especially liked was that children had not been left out. With little stools available to buy, plus chairs and tables. Some of the stools are engraved with a 'Forest' type image perhaps of sheep or Oak leaves and maybe by order a name could be engraved or perhaps a birthdate. A lifelong present to pass down to future generations if well cared for.

Much larger furniture, Kitchens etc do naturally have a waiting time which is about 4/5 weeks, but if you can get it in the boot of your car, then in most cases you can take it away with you immediately. Another special feature was the varying sizes of kitchen pews, all beautifully made and in some cases carved.

Also available are pots of special bees wax to keep your beautiful purchase well cared for and there is a special 'showroom' for pieces that are perhaps end of line or simply in the usual 'Sale'.

Worth a visit, worth a look and definitely worth a purchase, Plenty of parking, and open everyday except but Sundays.

We live here and it took friends visiting from the city to remind us what a beautiful county we live in. So many treasures.

So many attractions & wonderful scenery. Historic Gloucester with it's beautiful cathedral (an absolute must see), Regency Cheltenham and many other smaller towns/villages :)
