“Hotel great: pub next door dreadful!”
Reviewed 28 August 2012 via mobile

We stopped in the areas for a festival at the end of August. The staff were friendly, the location very good, the hotel exceptionally clean.

When we arrived there was an odd smell in the room. We were moved instantly without question. Our new room was perfect. Yes the hotel was warm but nothing more. The doors have card keys, which is great if you come and go at unusual and different times as we did.

The restaurant next door though was dreadful. Indifferent service from all the staff I encountered. Would not use again.

Stayed in april as we were supposed to be judging at the Withington Manor Horse Trials (rained off).

Check in was super efficient, a warm welcome from the reception staff. Room was very clean and the bed looked new and was sooo comfortable.

Friends joined us for dinner in the restaurant the first night and had a very tasty meal and the service was excellent. Breakfast the following morning was just as good.

Ideal location as just off M5 and ther is a 10 pin bowling complex within walking distance

This hotel is in most respects the same as many other Premier Inns we have used in the past.....clean, comfortable and with friendly staff. Unfortunately, our arrival coincided with one of the hottest day of the year and the room temperature during the first night was unbearable despite having 2 fans provided which we left on all night. Despite the lower temperature outside the next day, the room temperature remained at 27-28 degrees. The Reception advised us that our room did not have air conditioning and offered another fan (we already had 2) and sheets. They did offer to see whether a room with a/c was available which we only declined as it was late at night and we had two young children already in bed so did not want the disruption. This is a real shame as other than this the hotel is fine and is conveniently located for the Forest of Dean.

Room Tip: Make sure you check the room has a/c if the weather is hot

we stayed in a family room for 3 nights. We were given room 26, it was boiling, even with 2 fans and a window open, the temperature never went below 27 degrees, awake all night. the fans were to noisy to keep on at night, and the rooms were by the dual carriageway so couldn't keep the window open at night. Complained after the first night, and was refunded that nights stay and moved to room 11 that had air conditioning. That made the room slightly cooler and bearable in the evenings, but as the air con was so noisy we couldn't leave it on at night, so again the temperature in the room became unbearable. We were even closer to the dual carriageway, so couldn't open the window again.Had little sleep for the two nights in room 11, didn't bother to ask to be moved, as it seems all the rooms in this hotel are just way to warm. The temperature in the corridors was lovely. Wont be going back to this premier inn, very disappointing.

Room Tip: stay away from room 26, rooms at back are right next to A40 dual carriageway.

We were on our way to blackpool from cornwall and Stopped here half way up. Clean room. We had a quad room. Good shower. We had a super prebooked breakfast in the ajoining pub before heading on up north. Pleasant stay but my only niggles were 1/ only one spare socket so I had to chose between charging phone or laptop. 2/ the room was 27 degrees c when we arrived and we all slept on our beds without duvets and with the fan on all night.

We've stayed at many Premier Inns and always been impressed. This P.Inn however was disappointing. Functional, yet lacked the friendliness that P.inn are known for. Room was uncomfortably warm even with the noisy fans supplied. Breakfast was self service - including the cooked breakfast. We were greeted with 'it's over there'.
Tip of the week. Nip down to Sainsburys for your breakfast. They open at 7.30. Good value, hot meal and served with a smile......

Two nights away on a short break. First the good news: Premier Inn's usual clean, spacious and good value accommodation. BUT: this was the most disappointing PI stay I can remember; 1. while all of the staff were polite and helpful, some seemed unable to summon a smile - not the end of the world in terms of service perhaps, but the 'pleased-to-have-you-here' welcome costs nothing and is what separates PI from a lot of other budget chains; 2. as others here have commented, our room was desperately hot at night, to the point where refreshing sleep was impossible even with the windows full open and the large fan on full blast; why the room temp should still be 27C first thing in the morning when it's only 13C outside first thing in the morning is a mystery, but it's something I've experienced at other Premier Inns and to be honest it makes you wonder whether it's worth paying the extra to stay somewhere with air conditioning. And 3. our experiences in the adjacent pub (evening meal the first night and breakfast the next morning) were enough to send us to another restaurant for the second evening and the local Sainsburys superstore for our breakfast the second morning - the place was clearly understaffed, we had to wait ages for our food to arrive, mains & side dishes were served at intervals rather than all together, and we had to keep asking for breakfast items (especially the self-service cooked ones) to be replenished because they'd run out. And I really did not appreciate being escorted (however politely) back to the hotel to pay for our breakfast in advance just because they were, for some reason, unable to accept payment in the pub itself. Would I stay here again? Frankly, no - at least one of the other budget hotels in the Gloucester area just has to be better than this......

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the dual carriageway - it's very noisy.
