“A mixed bag”

Used for one night as somewhere to sleep, after a good few pints, then this is a just about acceptable place to stay. If you're visiting in the hope of a magical city break then you're going to be distinctly underwhelmed.

Steve, the bar man / manager / receptionist is probably a little less than happy in the role is currently finds himself in. While not rude in the slightest he isn't the cheeriest chap about and speed of service is at his pace, one that puts to bed the myth of the tortoise besting the hare - albeit we did get there in the end.....

The room was clean and tidy, but being on the first floor was very, very noisy until the bar closed. When calling home I was asked if I was sat next to a speaker. I was on the bed...... The shower was a great size, warm and with a decent amount of pressure.

The grub is poor. Baguettes that turn up as sarnies with no butter and stale bread and a breakfast that was inedible. The place is understaffed and under skilled sadly.

The location is spot on for jumping on the train as it's just a walk across the station car park.

A visit is a bit like dating me must be. An experience if you know how to laugh, if a bit disappointing in the bedroom and kitchen.....

Room Tip: Higher floor the better

If this was priced as a budget hotel, I would be more forgiving. However, at just over £60/night this was an absolute rip-off.

We arrive to meet the grumpy manager, who gets confused over the bookings and annoyed that we want to order food and drink at the bar. Food eventually arrives - a steak baguette turns out to be a chewy steak between two unbuttered slices of stale bread.

Luckily we were out for the majority of the day and the railway station is mercifully close to the hotel (20m away). However be warned that in the evenings they seem to hold regular karaoke sessions, so loud that they made the floor shake in my friend's room.

In my room two lights were broken, the TV didn't work and one of the bedside tables was missing an entire draw. Probably for the best, the ones that remained were filthy and clearly hadn't been checked for a while. An empty packet of facewipes had been left in one by a previous occupant.

The next morning we have to step over broken glass in order to get into the breakfast area. Apparently there was a break-in in the middle of the night and the cleaner didn't want to wake anyone by using the vacuum cleaner (does she not have a dustpan and brush?). This wasn't exactly early at 9.30am, and personally I'd rather risk 5mins of vacuum noise than slicing my feet open.

Breakfast was a full english consisting of soggy hash browns and sausages that tasted of bleach. Washed away the taste with a cup of instant coffee and made a hasty retreat back home. Needless to say, will not be returning.

Room Tip: As far away from bar/reception as possible.

If you want a reasonably priced bed and the breakfast in the morning, don't mind a very tired decor, can accept low levels of staffing and the type of service that results from under staffing, then this place is ideal for you.
Our weekend was for rugby match in Cardiff which is only 60mins direct from train station next door to hotel (clue is in the hotel title) This was ideal for us as it served its purpose.
Breakfast was adequate at best but they probably can't afford a trained chef / cook! If you order bar food be prepared for the long wait. Steve (the manager) won't be everyone's cup of tea but his heart is in the right place. I guess he doesn't get much time off as he seems to be less than enthusiastic about customer service.
Towns like Gloucester need places like this but I don't think I would prioritise it over other venues.

Room Tip: Any room as far away from bar as possible.

We stayed at this hotel for just one night on our way to the Cotswolds booked through Booking.com. It was exceptionally well located for our needs - right outside the mainline railway station therefore easy access if loaded with baggage. The bus station and taxi rank are both a 5 minutes walk across the road too as is the tourist information centre - an ideal location.
As regards the accommodation - where in England would you find a clean comfortable bed, ensuite bath/shower [plenty of hot water along with complimentary bath essentials], and a full English breakfast [cereals, bread/toast, coffee and tea were self service and egg, bacon, sausage, mushrooms, tomatoes and baked beans served at the table] for £20.00 per night? Three adults sharing a family room that looked out onto the main road... we had the windows open throughout the night and had no disturbances. A table fan was also provided as was instant coffee, teabags, a kettle and biscuits... it met our needs and we have no complaints. I would recommend it for one night if you are arriving into Gloucester by train!

Room Tip: the family room sleeps three adults on single beds in dormitory style arrangement.

We would never go back. Basic in the extreme. Loud music, sticky tables, the worst English breakfast we have ever had, cheap produce and overpriced. Even the coffee was the cheapest instant that money could buy, but put in cona coffee pots to look like the real thing - un drinkable! A complete rip-off at £60!

Room Tip: Don't do it! Find somewhere else

A crowd of us stayed here for a rugby weekend a couple of months ago and it was perfect for what we wanted. It's very basic with no lift and no reception area. You check in at the bar. It was clean and very central and also very cheap. Very comfortable beds. On the down side, breakfast was a bit dodgy. It's worth it for a night or two, cheap and cheerful.

This is my first time in this hotel My concerns about breakfast in this Station Hotel, I have egg 2mushroom,bean, 1bacon and i would like to reorder some tomato and mushrooms coz I can't eat cereals and no fruits in there. VERY limited breakfast . But the lady server breakfast said to me this is last one. But I don't know everyone have 1time order or no more left ???? After few minutes she still server other people full English breakfast . How strange? I think if anyone want staying in this hotel try to eat your breakfast first before going to have they Breakfast . You will hungry still.
Never never again.
