We were disappointed on arrival to see that the car park was full. This was unexpected and left us a little flustered in the middle of traffic when we had to turn around and try to find somewhere safe to park in an unfamiliar city centre.
Check-in involved a lengthy wait behind a group of golfers who had apparently made a group booking under someone else's name which was causing some confusion. However, the young lady on the check-in desk (later tending bar and also serving food) was actually very efficient, helpful, polite and professional).
Our room was fine; large enough, comfortable with good furniture and small but pleasant bathroom. The highlight was definitely the view over Derby city centre (we had inadvertently chosen an excellent night with clear skies and a full moon, really picturesque).
We noticed that a tray full of dirty plates etc. which had been left in the corridor by the time we arrived at 7.30pm was still there when we returned from an evening out at around 11.30pm.
The next morning while waiting for a lift (these seemed temperamental) a team of 3 cleaning staff were bringing a large bucket and mop into the lift. I'm not quite sure how, but they left the floor absolutely soaking wet in their wake, all across the floor and into the lift so that we were actually lifting our trouser legs up to avoid getting them wet. There were little plastic signs warning of 'wet floors' but the sheer volume of water on the floor was ridiculous. I overheard one of them say something about 'getting some towels or something' but it seemed clear that some training was required on how to use the mop and bucket.
Breakfast was a buffet and was basic but adequate.
