I'd not been to the Lawns for many years but thought I'd give it a try as it's visually changed a lot and has new owners.

We had beef bourguignon (I don't believe the meat was cooked with the sauce, it seemed very manufactured i.e. boil in the bag), steak (my daughter seemed happy with this) and lamb shank (the meat's supposed to fall off the bone, you couldn't even cut it off).

We did raise our concerns and they didn't charge us for the lamb shank. They blamed the poor quality on how busy they were however the problem with the food was more down to their supplier I believe and I don't think they have a chef working there, given the quality issues I'd say they were a cook.

Sorry guys but we won't be back. there are too many other decent or half decent restaurants near by (the garden centre at Swarkstone bridge is much better if that gives you an idea).

I am only giving this a 1* with regard to disabled access both inside and out. Do not go if you have someone in a wheelchair or mobility problems. No access without outside and inside steps. Ladies had to climb step to get into toilet cubicle. Don't know about gents but my husband needed a disabled one anyway and wouldn't have been able to get to it if one existed. We were unable to join the main family gathering but dumped in a small area where we came in via a fire exit. Access right round the back of the hotel and down a step. Not easy with a wheelchair!! Didn't let it spoil the family get together but would never go back there again as I was so stressed before I got in. Rain didn't help!! Member of staff moved his vehicle so I could park there to get wheelchair out of car for which I would give him a 5* star rating. Thank you.

We had booked in to stay overnight for a family gathering but sadly this place failed to meet expectations on a number of levels. Firstly, the price of the rooms seemed expensive for the size. There appeared to be one plug in the room that had to be used for everything electrical. Cleanliness was a significant issue especially in the bathroom, which itself looked very tired. General feel was that the place could have been furnished to a much better standard to justify the price charged. Breakfast was ok, however coffee was not much more than coloured water. Would I stay here again? The answer is a definitive no.

we often go to the lawns if we want to go somewhere local. We feel the Lawns has a good atmosphere & always has great service. Its definately the best pub in the area - the food is also very good. Its a regular place for us to go alone or to meet up with friends

We have returned to The Lawns Hotel quite a few times since our first visit back in August 2011, it still lives up to our expectations and everything is still as clean and fresh looking. BUT it has even exceeded our expectations, when recently we visited, again with family, and they were happy to serve us dishes which were not on the current menu due to be served at that hour! which we could not fault. You cannot expect more than that! They are still rated number 1 as a local restaurant in our book.
