“Why Derby is a city”
Reviewed 26 May 2014

Derby is a city because it has a cathedral - this one. A large and imposing building that always seems to have informative but not intrusive guides on hand. Often organise 'climb the tower' days and certainly worth checking those out for fabulous views from the top. Make sure you check out the Peregrine camera webcast - Peregrines have nested and raised young here for many years now and can often be seen on their nesting platform during the breeding season.

“Brilliant ironwork”
Reviewed 26 May 2014

Beautiful wrought ironwork both outside and inside. The cathedral was not so big. On the continent it would be a normal church. We are no religious people and we were not really overwhelmed. It was very nice to have seen the interior of the cathedral though.

“Quick visit to the Cathedral in Derby”
Reviewed 23 May 2014

Popped into the Cathedral of All Saints in Derby to get out of the boiling Sun. Lovely and cool inside and very atmospheric with the sunrays streaming through the modern stained glass windows at the end of the building.

Not the biggest or most spectacular cathedral you will ever visit but does have some history to keep you engaged. When I was there a lot of information about local hero Florence Nightingale. There is a plaque to her but she is actually buried at St. Margaret Church in East Wellow, Hampshire.

Lots of information boards in particular about Florence Nightingale. Nice iron work, especially the gates at the entrance to the building. Interesting memorials to the Sherwood Foresters Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment around the cathedral.

There are nesting falcons in the tower but I forgot to have a look at the webcams when there.

Plenty of leaflets and guides on offer. No fee but donations encouraged. You can easily spend an hour just happily wandering around or in religious reflection.

“Pleasant Visit”
Reviewed 13 May 2014

We have been to Derby on numerous occasions but this is the first time we have visited the Cathedral. It was very interesting with plenty of information available both in leaflets and display material. Unlike some of a larger Cathedrals there was no pressure to pay for entry but just a box for donations.
